Character Details

NOTE: This is supposed to be more consistent with what Logan was aware of, or what had been implanted, around the time of CUTOFF. Thus it excludes a lot of what is now his "true history" that was introduced in the 2001-2002 Miniseries. Logan's history is fractured to accurately reconstruct his past one would be better set to find those who knew him, long ago, than to ask Logan himself. Since the Weapon-X experiment he has worked tirelessly to try and remember who he is and how he got there. He has had success, albeit limited, with much searching and a whole lot of aid.

His very nature makes his date of birth hard to pinpoint for once he reached his late teens his mutancy surfaced and his biological clock began to work in ways none have fully been able to pick apart. Hank McCoy gave the estimate at around hundred and fifty the ambiguity stemming partially from Logan's inability to decide upon which birthday his aging slowed.

It was probably during the time of the American Civil War that Logan was born though his nationality spared him the horror of brother-fighting-brother. He has no memory of his mother who he believed died while giving birth leaving him with but a father in the wilds of the Canadian frontier their small town hardly known for its population of recently migrated settlers. It is assumed he grew normally receiving what little education existed in that place with a school-yard bully by the name of Victor Creed having been Logan's main torment.

He remembers too the disappearance of his father and though he cannot remember how or why he does remember his inheritance was meager a plot of land and little more. Upon the land he constructed a cabin and, barely a teenager, began to live there with his girlfriend who was an Indian woman known as Silver Fox. He probably did odd-jobs after their marriage supporting his family by blood, sweat, and calloused hands.

He was happy then, that much he does remember. Really, truly, it's the last time he remembers feeling totally at peace with the world for any extended period of time. Yet contented existence would end abruptly for returning home upon his birthday he found his wife beaten and raped at the hands of Victor Creed. In that moment his existence changed and for the first time he gave into animal rage and mutant powers first manifested. He fought with the fury of a raging animal but was soundly beaten by Creed.

He survived though and thinking his wife to be dead he set fire to his cabin and left his life behind.

Logan became an tracker then working for the Hudson Bay Company in the wilds of Canada. It was here that two members of the company came up missing, presumed killed by Indians, and Logan set out to find them. What he found, however, was the Unceliga who he killed utilizing only a knife. The Indians who witnessed the savage battles dubbed him 'Wolverine'. Logan passed his time living in Canada for the next few decades either working in this manner or living in more civilized areas.

World War I found Logan in the army for the first, but by no means the last, time. His mutantcy was not well know for it was not common then but his prowess due to its effects quickly placed in an elite group of soldiers known as the "Devil's Brigade". Logan served in this unit until the war's end finding love for the second time in a woman named Janet. However, the leader of the Devil's Brigade, a mutant named Cyber, murdered her and when Logan sought revenge it cost him his eye. Logan was once again taken by wanderlust. Roaming the world with a single eye earned him the nick-name 'Patch' until it healed.

Logan then traveled to Japan where he saved the life of a man known as Ogun. Ogun offered Logan solace but he refused instead having various oriental adventures before ending up in Madripoor. There he met Seraph, who owned the Princess Bar, who was his consort for some time until he eventually gained ownership of the bar from her. Yet this life left him without balance and, once again taken by wanderlust, he returned to Japan to take Ogun up on his offer. Thus ensued Logan's training as a warrior and a philosopher.

Following this he found himself first in the Spanish Civil War and then in Russia where he lived with a Czar and met the young woman who would grow and become known as "Black Widow".

World War II found Logan in Madripoor aiding Seraph against the Hand. Here he first worked with Captain America and fought with Natasha "Black Widow" Romanov again Baron Strucker. Logan then returned to Canada where he rejoined the military and became a paratrooper just in time for D-Day. After the war he returned to the Orient and where communism had taken hold. Logan became a free agent for LL&L where he gained a number of contacts at home and abroad.

Injury sent Logan to Dr. Gilosky in Canada who recognized Logan's healing abilities and reported them to Department H thus beginning the covert surveillance of Logan and his actions by the Canadian government. In the mean time Logan joined the CIA's Team X. Under the guise of a black ops team the true nature of Team X was the use of memory manipulation to transform their agents into sleepers. Logan was joined by Maverick, Sabretooth, and the seemingly resurrected Silver Fox. The team worked well together purely due to the memory manipulation at hand.

Their missions were varied, Fox went crazy in Cuba as Creed killed an enemy agent's wife. Logan battled Omega Red and Sabretooth killed again a woman name Janice purely due to her inexperience in covert operations. Disgusted by this action Logan once again fled.

He returned to Canada and Logan joined its special operations under the codename 'Wolverine'. Here he worked with many others including a young INTERPOL agent by the name of Sean Cassidy. His most notable mission was the investigation of the Hellfire Club and a government plot involving the manipulation of mutants. Logan was also offered cybernetic enhancement at this time but he declined. The Hellfire investigation left him sure a war between humans and mutants was brewing.

Though Logan declined the offer of cybernetic enhancement Department H felt that Wolverine was a subject too unique to leave to his own free will so they sent agents to kidnap him and bring him back for implantation. There, using the notes of Lord Dark Wind they implanted Adamantium into his bones and created six claws within his forearms. Logan's healing factor, attempting to reject the foreign material, soon drove him mad and reduced him to a feral murderous state. Eventually he broke free and murdered the doctors involved in the project before disappearing into the wild for years to come.

In the Canadian wilds the still-feral Logan was discovered in by James and Heather Hudson. They nursed Logan back to health eventually restoring his sanity and he fell in unrequited love with Heather. Logan battled Chinook as it attempted to break up the Hudsons' wedding and then sought answers for the questions he had about his fractured past. Travelling to the US he encountered Nick Fury, Sabretooth, and others before returning to Department H which he joined under the name Weapon X. In Manhattan failed rocket voyage created the Fantastic Four who served as inspiration James Hudson to create a similar team. Logan traveled to Japan where he found Seraph aiding a young would be assassin named Viper. Logan and Serpah were captured by the Hand and in their escape Seraph was killed. Logan then returned to Canada.

Still seeking control Logan began intensive psychotherapy which partially aided in stabilizing the remaining imbalance. Continuing as Weapon X he traveled the world taking Carol Danvers as a lover and visiting Ogun in Japan for further training. Alpha Flight was then formed and Logan joined with Hudson to fill its ranks. Logan led the team and began to take interest in Snowbird. He also fought Deadpool, another Project X survivor, for the first time.

Logan rescued Carol from a Russian prison and then began to lead Alpha Flight full time. However before he settled fully into this roll he returned to Japan to find that his long-time mentor, Ogun, had abandoned his honorable ways and become a ninja. Logan then forsook unnatural weapons and began to rely more and more upon his claws. "The Leader" then captured Logan who promptly escaped and returned to Canada to find the Hulk on a rampage. Wolverine was sent to engage the Hulk and while he ultimately failed in defeating his foe he did drive him from Canada. With that accomplished he once again turned to rejoin Alpha Flight.

After rejoining Alpha Flight Logan was approached by Professor Charles Xavier who needed Logan's aid in freeing his students from the Krakoa. For his aid Xavier offered Logan insight into his fractured psyche. Logan left Alpha Flight to join the X-Men. It was here Logan first met Jean Grey and was, almost instantly, in lust for her. This quickly drove a block between he and her long-time boyfriend Scott Summers, the Cyclops.

His early missions drove him deeper in love with Jean who soon became the phoenix and led him to befriending Colossus. He also recruited Katherine Pryde, whom he would serve as a surrogate father. Katherine was also sought after by the Hellfire Club and thus the X-Men and the HFC quickly came in opposition of one another. Jean, having been tortured by Mastermind, then became the Dark Phoenix and an epic space battle ensued. The Imperial Guard came after Jean who soon sacrificed herself to save all. Cyclops left the team and Wolverine adopted a darker costume to signify the state of his soul.

Nightcrawler went with Wolverine to battle Wendigo alongside Alpha Flight. Following the battle with Wendigo both Logan and Heather Hudson were able sort-out their affections and part ways amicably. Carol Danvers came to the X-Men with the news that the government was secretly tracking mutants. The X-Men went on a mission to destroy the records where they encountered Mystique and Rogue. Then Logan, in another space mission, was implanted with a brood egg and though his healing factor saved his life Carol Danvers was transformed into Binary. The X-Men then returned to Earth to find the new mutants had been formed in their absence.

Logan left the team for Japan and became engaged to Mariko Yashida after battling alongside she and Yuriko. When his wedding was crashed he teamed with Rogue against Viper and Silver Samurai. Rogue ended up taking a bullet and Logan allowed her to absorb his healing factor which created something of a mutual affection that evolved into a real friendship between misanthropes. Mariko then spurned him, calling him an animal for the conflict with Silver Saumrai. It then became known that an earlier vow to the woman Viper technically made her his wife.

Logan fled Japan, perhaps not ready to settle into married bliss, and returned to the X-Men in time to travel to Battleworld and then back to Japan to fight a dragon who had followed them back to Earth. The battle left a girl named Amiko orphaned and Logan took her under his wing eventually leaving her with Yuriko he thought she would be much safer. Colossus, having broken things off with Kitty due to a lost love on Battleworld, where Logan picked a fight for the Ruskie with the Juggernaught and after the fight Colossus and Kitty's relationship seemed much more amicable.

Later, Rachel Summers appeared as the new Phoenix claiming she was from the future. Logan was later attacked by Lady Deathstrike as well as a host of others and barely survived. Some time later was forced to disembowel Rachel Summers, as she attempted to kill Selene, fearing that allowing her to willingly succumb to her aggressive nature would cause another Dark Phoenix. Rachel did not die, however, for she was taken by Spiral to Mojoworld.

Logan then took Kitty to Japan and Ogun used his ninja abilities to toy with her mind. Upset by this Wolverine challenged his former master to mortal combat and won. And though Ogun was believed to be dead the mind-toying had left Kitty Pryde with ninja abilities. Shortly thereafter, Sabretooth was sent by Sinister to massacre the Morlocks. Creed tracked Logan back the mansion and was briefly captured only to escape. He then returned to the sewers, having caught Jean's scent, and learned that she had not died afterall in the whole Phoenix affair. The X-Men then traveled to Dallas where they battled the Adversary and were killed only to be resurrected by Merlin's daughter Roma

The X-Men later defeated the Reavers in a bank robbery during which a young woman named Tyger Tiger suffered brain injuries that turned her into a crimelord and followed them back to theri Australian base. Tyger Tiger managed to take the X-Men by surprise and defeat them taking it over as a new headquarters for her criminal empire. Logan used Gateway to keep tabs on Tyger following her to Madripoor before going undercover by taking up his Patch identity so that the world would still believe the X-Men had died in Dallas.

After returning to the X-Men a man named Harry Palmer who had been infected by the Brood became patient zero and caused a Brood outbreak in the Midwest. The X-Men responded and Logan killed Harry.

Logan was then abducted along with Rogue by the Genoshans. Their powers were removed which lead to a rapid deterioration of Logan's health. The two managed eventually to regain their powers and escape the island. Logan then began to feel the violence rising up in him again, and after being found by Storm eating a live bird while naked in the woods, he took a leave of absence to blow off steam and returned to Madripoor. He spent an evening with Tyger Tiger and saved a Roughouse from Geist.

Logan then returned to the X-Compound in the Australian outback only to find that the X-Men had all traveled through the Siege Perilous and the Reavers had taken over again.

Captured by the Reavers, Logan was crucified on a massive wooden 'X' in the center of the compound where he was discovered by Jubilee. She managed to rescue him and the two made their escape from the Reavers. From there, they travelled to Southeast Asia and then China, where they found Psylocke, who had been subverted into becoming the Lady Mandarin. After shaking her free of the Mandarin's control the three traveled through Asia.

Logan then travels to Muir Island where he is taken over by the Shadow King. He is freed by Forge and they then team with Rogue and Banshee. Then, teaming with the original X-Men as X-Factor, they defeat the Shadow King. He then returns to the X-Men who resettle in Westchester and reconstruct their base there.
