*Lorna's parents die in a plane crash when she is young. Lorna is given to the Danes, rumored to be her aunt and uncle, who raise her as their daughter. She is born with green hair, although the Danes insist that she dye it brown.
*Samuel 'Starr' Saxon locates Lorna via a Cerebro-like machine that identifies her latent magnetic powers. Putting her into a genetic stimulator gives her access to her powers.
*Saxon has Mesmero hypnotize Lorna to believe she is Magneto's daughter after her transformation, so that she will join him, a robotic duplicate of Magneto, and a robot army. Mesmero is careless, and Lorna slips free of his control. She destroys all of the robots and escapes.
*Lorna meets up with the X-men and joins them, studying Archeology at Xavier's academy. She starts research at the Diablo mountain range and stops dying her hair. Lorna has relationships with Iceman and Havok during this time.
*After an on-again, off-again relationship with Alex, Lorna retires to the X-men reserve roster to seek new direction for her life. Eric the Red abducts Lorna for Shi-ar purposes and mentally subdues her.
*Xavier frees Lorna, and then discovers her powers have been altered by the island Krakoa. With the help of the X-men, Lorna uses her magnetic powers to hurl the island into space.
*Lorna and Alex are back 'on' for a while, until Jean Gray returns from being supposedly dead. Scott rejects Madelyne Prior (who he believed WAS Jean) for Jean. Alex, feeling sorry for Madelyne, begins spending more time with Madelyne than Lorna. Switch 'on' to 'off'.
*Lorna falls prey to the entity Malice at the direction of Mr. Sinister. It assumes control over her body and twists her mind. She joins the Marauders and battles the X-men for months. The X-men free her eventually, although it's uncertain whether there are any lingering effects.
*Lorna was then abducted by her supposed sister Zaladane, who stripped her magnetic powers within the Savage Land. Lorna retained her green hair, and within a short period of time she developed a physique that was stronger than her former self. Not being one to surrender, Lorna along with her X-men friends fought back against the new threat and defeated Zaladane and her minions. Over time, she regained her magnetic abilities once again as she lost her increased size and strength.
*Approached by Val Cooper, Lorna is offered a position on the new government team named X-Factor (II). Alex Summers was in Genosha with Rahne Sinclair, who were approached by Val with the same deal. With Lorna being the deciding factor, Alex and Rahne flew to Washington immediately.
*For their first mission, X-Factor (II) was teleported to the Blue Area of the Moon by Lockjaw to diffuse a bomb. The mission was successful and pulled the team together: Havok, Polaris, Guido, Rahne, Multiple Man and Quicksilver.
*It doesn't take long for the Lorna-Alex-Rahne triangle to cause strife within the team. Battles with various villains such as Farnoq Dahn, his Liberators, Pantheon, Promethius, and then Jolel finally begin to return a sense of cohesiveness to the team.
*Stryfe and his team the Mutant Liberation Front (MLF) surfaces to battle the team. That, along with the tampering of Sinister makes things even more convoluted for the team. After wrapping up all of these situations finally brings the team together into a fighting unit.
*X-Factor has many adventures and faced some deadly foes. One such group is the Nasty Boys under the direction of Mr. Sinister. The villains plague the heroes and run them ragged until X-Factor gets the jump on them. The battle goes south, Lorna is injured, one of Multiple Man's dupes is killed, and Karma is seriously injured. Havok snaps and he, along with the rest of the team, hits the Nasty Boys back so hard that it killed the entire team and sends Mr. Sinister packing.
*After killing the Nasty Boys, the team is very disheartened and decides to take an extended break from one another due to interpersonal issues. The hiatus turns into an entire team meltdown and shutdown. Members go their separate ways, and even Alex and Lorna decided they need some time apart from one another.
SURVIVOR - When it comes to surviving, Lorna's strong will shines through. She turned on Mesmero after he tried to dominate her, she survived Malice's possession and survived Eric the Red's capture. She's faced just about everything including a terrifying experience in the Savage Land. And whenever she is given an important task to do, she does what she can to get it done.
DETERMINED - There is little backing down for her. Numerous times she lifted small ships that were 'too much' for her magnetic powers to handle but she focused her will and overcame numerous odds with her powers and with her situation in general.
WILLFUL - Her strong will definitely helped her in pursuing her academic pursuits and when the time calls for it she can easily put on the right 'demeanor' and educate others about Geology and Archaeology. In fact her determination has paid off and she almost has a Ph.D. in Archaeology as well as a Master's in Geology.
LOYAL - Lorna has no doubt made many friends among the X-men and X-factor and has remained loyal to them. Should they be in trouble, she would easily come to their aid with no questions. Especially in the case of Alex, she will fly to his side to aid him without even thinking if her life would be in danger, whether they are still dating or not.
INTELLIGENT, YET UNWISE - Lorna is an amazing woman who has overcame numerous odds, but even though she is a strong woman who possesses a good academic mindset, she still lacks experience. This sometimes causes her to act first and think later.
NAIVE - Lorna displays traits of a naive girl at times. This may tie in to her lack of self-esteem that surfaces from time to time and definitely ties in with her lack of experience. She is drop dead gorgeous but often doesn't realize when men find her attractive. As such, it's often best she has an advisor or someone she can trust in at her side.
HEROIC - Lorna is no doubt one of the 'good guys' and at times will do almost anything to save innocent lives and good people. This also goes hand in hand with her loyalty to friends. If someone is in danger, she will not care about her welfare but stretch her powers to the limit to save others.
PROBLEM SOLVER - The word quick here has good meaning because just since she's a quick problem solver it doesn't mean she's a rational problem solver. This also comes into play when she uses her powers a lot. On many missions she acted quicker than the others had a chance to, whether it be creating EMPs or magnetically searing guns to people's bodies.
RELUCTANT - Even though Lorna is definitely a good gal and is aligned on the side of good, she never wanted to be a super hero. After all it took her years to finally become comfortable with the color of her hair, but her dream life is to continue researching and living just like any other woman. She enjoys simple things like music, walks in the park or among mountains, movies, and just about anything that would make a simple person happy. While she would never abandon her duties as a strong mutant, she very often finds herself dreaming about living in a typical surrounding free of the strife that mutants have to deal with.
PLEASANT - In day to day conversation, Lorna is very pleasant and good natured. She will greet just about anyone with a warm smile and nice manners. She does have a good level of empathy (not telepathy) and that normally leads her to give kind words to others and be a good sounding board if someone needs a person to talk to.
TEMPER - If Lorna is provoked, her temper makes itself known. If there is a purpose to be upset, she will definitely get angry and due to her stubbornness she would probably not let the issue go. And once her fuse is lit, she will probably be quick to 'go out with a bang' instead of thinking what results her 'temper' may have.
FERROKINESIS: If it has iron, Lorna can manipulate it. It is not uncommon for her to lift a car and throw it toward any foe she has. However the larger the object the more focus she requires. Things like paper clips, irons, forks, etc take little effort for her to lift. Things like cars and trucks take much more focus. At the moment she cannot lift an entire ship but she is known to help steer a ship if the ship's electrical navigation system goes off course. Lorna can also bend iron bars and use them to entangle opponents, if she wishes.
FORCE FIELD: Like Jean can create a TK shield Lorna can create a similar magnetic shield. This shield can cover her or cover multiple people and can block many attacks such as energy and physical attacks. The more she focuses the greater the shield will be. She can also protect herself and others from various natural elements (wind water etc) and she can keep this magnetic shield around herself when she flies. These shields are very powerful and effective but they don't last forever. To keep them up she has to keep focusing to 'replenish' their magnetic energy.
FORCE BLAST: Lorna can issue a magnetic blast with focus. It is normally used in defense attacks and can have up to a 70' affected radius. To prepare for the blast she normally balls her fists and her aura turns green but when she's ready to deliver it, normally everyone knows. This blast is useful for deflecting objects away from her.
One of Lorna's most useful attacks is her ability to unleash magnetic bolts. These are magnetic pulses that are similar to a hard punch. These bolts do cause her to focus (in other words she may not be able to unleash multiple bolts at the same time) but when delivered they could cause many adversaries to fall down hard.
RECHARGE: Like Magneto can recharge his powers, so can Lorna. Though not to the same extreme. If her powers are weak she can take a moment and tune herself into magnetic waves around her, then take minutes to hours recharge herself (depending on the level by which she has been drained or the energy expended). These sources of magnetism can be electrical energy, lightning, or even trying to tune herself into the Earth's Van Allen Radiation Belts to get her powers boosted. Lorna would need to be relatively close to these power sources for her to gain any benefit from them; yards, feet, inches. And to have the necessary exposure time as stated above.
MAGNETIC DETECTION: Like Storm's eyes go white as she senses weather patterns, Lorna's eyes turn green as she senses magnetic patterns. While Lorna needs to focus more than Magneto, she can easily sense and see the magnetic patterns around iron and other magnetic substances. She still has to focus a LOT before she can manipulate iron in someone's blood but she knows it's there. This power is also helpful when she comes in contact with energy because she can sense if the energy force has a magnetic basis where she can possibly manipulate it.
MAGNETIC MANIPULATION: Lorna can generate and send out magnetic waves that can do a variety of things such as make iron quiver, but these waves are very important when she defends herself against energy attacks. Also, since many electrical fields and currents are influenced by magnetism, Lorna can see these fields and possibly manipulate them. She can also short circuit various appliances and other electrical devices since magnetic fields play an important role in electricity.
Lorna has control over electro magnetism and with this she can deliver an electro-magnetic pulse that can disable electrical equipment, computers, robots etc. Also if an EMP was to hit her (as well as anything electrical) she could easily channel the pulse within her body and not be hurt by it. With focus, she can shut off just about any computer or network within 50 miles.
FLIGHT: By using magnetic waves, Lorna can propel herself upward in flight. With focus, she can fly at speeds up to 150 mph. Her level of control gives her maneuverability similar to a hummingbird, although this requires concentration and isn't instinctive for her.
HAND TO HAND COMBAT: Since Lorna has spent time in the Danger Room and her life has been more exciting than most, she has above average skills in hand to hand combat, including martial arts skills. If the average mugger was going to try to go up against her she would probably be able to beat him down without using her magnetic abilities.
GEOPHYSICS: Since studying the earth's rocks has helped her understand her own powers of magnetism, this area of academics is an asset to her. After all iron comes from the earth. If she had to she could no doubt teach the subject in a college setting.
ARCHEOLOGY: Ask her something about archaeology, she would probably know it. Even though her MA is not in archaeology, she has loved the subject all throughout her secondary education to her current graduate career (yes she's close to getting a PhD here). At times she is tempted to even leave her life as a super hero to go out on digs and discover more about past civilizations. Due to her experience in the field, she can give lectures and presentations to various colleges with little preparation.
EDUCATION: Lorna is a brilliant woman in the field of academics. She already has a Masters in geology and in her young age she's relatively close to having a doctorate degree in Archaeology. She can learn about twice as fast as an average individual, though she has yet to obtain a photographic memory. This also leads her to have excellent research skills. If she needs to find information she can probably obtain it twice as fast using the Internet or library than an average student would.
PILOT: Lorna is has been trained and checked out having logged several hundred hours flying the X-Jet and thus is able to fly the craft in a pinch. She is not a combat pilot, nor can she do advanced maneuvers. She can fly the plane from point A to point B, and that is all.
RESEARCH: Over the years Lorna has had many opportunity to research topics, subjects, objects and other not common knowledge items. This has thus given her the ability (call it experience) to narrow down on what topic she's researching and thus find more information on the subject. With the advent of computers (beyond the Cerebro databank) and the internet, Lorna has access to information far beyond that of before when she first began her academic career, and thus her research has become easier.
X-MEN: While Lorna has most recently joined X-Factor II, she still maintains ties to the X-Men, when available, and can reap the benefits from said technology, information, and contacts. This isn't something she normally uses unless as a last resort (because she's very independent). Nor is it something she likes to use because she will then feel indebted.
X-FACTOR (II): X-Factor (II) is a United States Government team that was setup to act as a mutant super heroic organization to combat mutant threats. It's members circulated in and out, as with any good X team. As a member of X-Factor II, Lorna has access to all that would be a part of the team and the security clearance allowed (CSR2). Otherwise, Lorna is not currently affiliated with any team other than through mutual friends such as the X-Men. And Lorna can /not/ just walk into any government facility and gain stuff.
USGS: Mostly due to her Geophysics work but also due to the well-known nature of her powers, Lorna has many professional contacts at the U.S. Geological Service. While not an official member of this governmental agency, she could certainly call in favors if needed.
EMPATHY: At many times Lorna can connect with people pretty well and even in a small amount of time she can form an opinion about them that often accurately describes their personality types. She is not a telepath like Jean or Charles, but she seems to be able to figure people out easier than most. This doesn't make her a certified psychotherapist but she does have a good intuition about folks.
FOCUS: Often times Lorna has to really focus to utilize her powers to her full abilities. Whereas Magneto could just give a brief 'thought' and make many iron objects spin at his command, Lorna has to focus more on it. Also if she doesn't give her abilities the 'focus' required the results could be dangerous. It's not a minor thing manipulating magnetic fields!
APPEARANCE: Lorna's green hair makes her stand out more than most and is a clear sign that she is a mutant. She can dye it brown as she did in the past but now she has become comfortable with her real hair color yet unfortunately it makes her stand out in a crowd very easily. She is also very self conscious about her appearance in general and doesn't feel she's very beautiful, even her looks often turn heads.
STUBBORNESS: With a strong will often comes stubbornness. At many times she will get an idea and want to do things the way /she/ wants to do it. Since she is still a good superhero her stubbornness wouldn't go so far as to risk the lives of many but in normal everyday life it can probably get annoying.
EASILY MANIPULATED: Due to Lorna's psychological history of being manipulated, she has developed a specific weakness to the situation. She is often the target of powerful mind/body controlling villains such as Malice, Eric the Red, and Mesmero. They tend to focus on her due to her susceptibility and find her more easily controlled than many of the other X-Men who seem to be able to resist much of the similar domination. (This trait is seen throughout the comics and is felt that it should be listed here.)
ENEMIES: Due to the activities the Lorna has been apart of with not only the X-Men, X-Factor and the other organizations, she has gained a long list of enemies. Enemies such as Malice, who once possessed her, the Marauders, whom she was a member of their team (as Malice), Sinister, who would love to get his clammy hands on her so as to bring her back aboard the Marauders, and Zaladane, her aledged sister who may or may not be alive down in the Savage Land, among others.
INDEPENDENCE: Although she is a good team player she has a definite independent streak which can cause problems with what she wants to do and with what's best for the team. Many times Lorna has wandered off alone and left the others wondering where she went. While she does have strong loyalty to her friends, deep in her heart she feels she reports to one person and that is herself.
FLASHBACKS: She has been kidnapped and possessed more than once, by persons such as Malice (possession) and Erik the Red (kidnapping), and at times these memories resurface. This can be called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She can never totally forget what has happened to her and is susceptible to nightmares at times. While she doesn't have a 'flashback' every second of every day, bad memories can resurface at pretty much anytime especially if she is in a stressful situation or if she is subject to familiar stimulus that could remind her of the previous situation.
MAGNETIC: From time to time Lorna has displayed the loss of control of her powers. This isn't a standard day to day event, but it's something that happens. When she does lose control, she may emit an electro magnetic field that could do damage to surrounding electronic equipment, data storage devices, and other similar systems. When this happens, she can accrue a high dollar amount of damage. This aura may also allow her to be easily tracked by her enemies.
