Namor is the son of Princess Fen of Atlantis and Leonard McKenzie, captain of the human vessel Oracle. He was born in the 1920's.
In his youth Namor launched several invasions of the surface world, often thwarted only by the efforts of various super-heroes. During WWII he fought the Axis powers a member of the Invaders.
Namor's memory was erased during the destruction of the original Atlantis and he was transported to New York, a homeless drunk until discovered by the second Human Torch who partially restored his memories.
Namor again launched repeated attacks on New York City. When he discovered survivors of Atlantis these took the form of full-scale military invasions. Over time Namor developed feelings for Sue Storm, causing his subjects to abandon him.
Later, ruler of Atlantis once more, Namor regained his full memory including his time with the Allies. This made him finally cease his campaigns against the surface world. Namor continued with other adventures including many with the Defenders, and later fell in love with the alien Marrina.
Namor was asked to abdicate the throne of Atlantis due to his irresponsible attitude towards ruling the kingdom, although he is still considered a rightful heir to the throne of Atlantis. He became a member of the Avengers despite an infamous reputation and criminal record for crimes against the surface world. Since that time he has continued to alternate between underseas royalty and adventurer.
Namor was briefly thought dead due to the events when Atlantis, under the control of a priest of Set, attacked the surface world in search of the Serpent Crown. When he resurfaced, Namor established a powerful company in the surface world (Oracle Inc), which attempts to safeguard the interests of the undersea realm while protecting the environment in both sea and surface realms.
Most recently Namor lost his wings (and thus could not fly), lost his memory again and spend 6 months incommunicado. He's just surfaced in a logging town somewhere on the North American West Coast.
Arrogant - Namor grew up with a strong sense of pride and due to his abilities and royal heritage, and to a lesser extent an imperialistic attitude towards the surface world when he compares its development to the history of his native Atlantis.
Moody - Although this has been explained by his physiological dependance on air and water, Namor remains a volatile being subject to occasional mood swings. These are often unpredictable and almost always involve passionate positive or negative feelings.
Impetuous - Despite Namor's advanced age he retains brash, aggressive tendancies bordering on reckless. Perhaps this is an offshoot of his longevity…he looks young, and he acts like he did when he was young.
Bitter - This is a combination of Namor's pride, his mood swings, repeatedly being defeated at the hands of other superheroes (or surpassed in power level by others of similar power set), and his awareness of how far Atlantis has fallen from its storied golden days. Most of the time Namor puts on a show of supreme self-confidence, but inside he's sometimes seething with negativity.
HYBRID PHYSIOLOGY: A mix of Atlantean and Human heritage gives Namor abilities found in both species. He can breathe air or water. His body is strong enough to resist the pressures and temperatures found at the very depths of the oceans. He is also less affected by water resistance than surface-dwellers, and his eyes are specially adapted to see for great distances and with great clarity underwater, even with virtually no light.
ENHANCED STRENGTH: Namor strength level varies depending on his contact with water. At his standard level of strength, when swimming or dripping wet, he lifts up to 80 tons. When his skin is completely dry Namor is still capable of managing weights in the range of 50 tons. When completely submerged, he's considered to be in the Class 100 range due to the additional physical advantages he enjoys in that environment.
HYPER-SWIMMING: Namor is able to attain high speeds on and under the water, greater even that those of most Atlanteans. He can move at up to 60 mph and is able to travel at this speed for hours without tiring.
ANIMAL MIMICRY (AQUATIC): Namor can copy some of the useful abilities found in marine life, although he tends to do this rarely and instead favors his other powers. Namor has in the past employed a sonar-like radar sense (which allows him to detect invisible beings), and absorb or redirect electric energy (allowing him to charge the air around him with electricity).
COMMUNICATE WITH ANIMALS (AQUATIC): Namor can mentally communicate with marine life. His force of personality is sufficient in most cases to give them commands which are obeyed to the best of their ability.
WINGED FLIGHT (FORMER): Fin-like projections once found on Namor's ankles (technically a mutation) allowed him to fly. He could travel at a top speed of 60 mph, maintaining this airspeed for up to an hour before growing fatigued (although by moving at lower speeds he could extend his flying time considerably). By applying his great strength, Namor could also carry an additional 2 tons of weight while in flight. NOTE: This ability is currently unavailable to him as his wings have been removed by an anti-mutant catalyst. It is possible that the power could be restored at some point if he recieves treatement capable of restoring lost limbs - or lost mutant powers.
UNDERWATER COMBAT: Namor is able to use any features in his surroundings to his advantage, anticipate the difficulties most enemies have in moving and sensing his movements, and capitalize on many other nuances of fighting in this environment. A frequent fighting tactic employed by Namor when on dry land is to drench himself with a nearby water source (pulling enemies into a decorative pool, overturning an office water cooler on himself, standing under the spray of a ruptured water line, etc) to instantly increase his strength levels.
CORPORATE BUSINESS: Since starting his company, Namor has found a surprising aptitude for the ruthless growth and profit focus required of Corporate leaders. His classic Atlantean royal education included subjects such as trade, finance, and negotiation, and he quickly matched this to the needs of surface-world business.
EDGED WEAPONS: Another remnant of a royal Atlantean education, Namor is adept in the use of most bladed weapons. His style focuses on stabbing or slicing attacks rather than sweeping or chopping blows (as these are ill-suited in underwater combat).
LANGUAGES: Namor speaks English, Atlantian and Lemurian.
ATLANTEAN KNOWLEDGE: Namor has through education and experience learned much about Atlantean lore and science.
DIPLOMAT: When not enraged or exiled or both, Namor shows a good grasp of diplomacy.
LEADERSHIP: The average person (especially Atlanteans) will tend to follow Namor. He radiates authority, force of personality and at times charisma.
ATLANTIS: Although Namor's status as ruler of Atlantis is always in question, he's still considered royalty and is accorded some respect and authority as a result. He can requisition all manner of underwater equipment (including specialized gear to allow surface-dwellers to live and function underwater), muster Atlantean milita to respond to threats to thee undersea realms, and occasionally call upon the aid of Atlanteans or other sea-dwellers for construction or other tasks. Sadly, virtually none of these resources are applicable to operations on land.
HEROES: Namor's long and storied career has seen him as an ally of many super-heroes and super-teams…when he was not their enemy, that is. He can call on with varying degrees of cooperation the aid of Captain America and the Avengers, The Fantastic Four (especially Sue Richards), the Defenders, and Alpha Flight. All of these contacts tend to be somewhat leery of his motives and will only aid him in legimately heroic endeavors.
SUNKEN TREASURE: Namor is able to collect vast amounts of gold and other valuables buried at sea. In surface terms he's quite wealthy.
ORACLE CORP: Namor has started a massive multinational corporation called Oracle. Their official operations include shipping, undersea exploration, and various environmental engineering pursuits. He can use this company for many business-related tasks (but mainly to interact with other large corporations).
OTHER ALLIES: Namor's cousin, Namorita, is a reliably ally. He also has maintained alliances with Misty Knight and Iron Fist. Occasionally he has worked with Doctor Doom and Magneto and maintains mutual respect with these.
VEHICLES: As CEO of Oracle Inc, Namor is allowed to requisition within reason various ground and air vehicles (as company property he tries to use these only for standard transportation purposes and will normally not risk taking them into situations where they will be damaged or lost).
DEHYDRATION: Prolonged time without immersion in water will cause Namor's superhuman strength to decrease until he is just above peak human strength (and can lift roughly 1 ton). Contact with water will instantly restore his lost strength.
OXYGEN IMBALANCE: Due to Namor's amphibious he requires regular exposure to both surface and water environments. If he spends too long exclusively in either realm he develops an oxygen imbalance, causing manic-depressive mood swings.
ENEMIES: Namor's list of enemies includes mostly water-based or anti-Atlantis villains such as Tiger Shark, Orka, U-Man, Llyra, Attuma, Krang, Byrrah, Naga. He also counts as enemies any surviving foes of the Invaders.
