Character Details

  • Much of Raven's history remains shrouded, and held in secret by her and her alone. Or, perhaps, maybe she's lived so long and so many lives it has even become murky and clouded to her.
  • Birthyear and parents remain unknown to any but her. In fact, not much is known about Mystique's past until the early 1900's when she finally shows up on the radar with another mutant. This is the first notable time that Raven Darkholme is known to have existed.
  • While little may be known of Raven's true past, it is almost certainty that she learned to control her mutant ability at an early age so that she could easily blend in and not suffer repurcussions of her mutant inheritance. Being stygmatized with her blue skin and yellow eyes before the 1900's, or indeed, much during the 1900's would have earned one a most evil stygma. Raven's only choice would have been to either blend in, or be hunted down.
  • While Raven took on many aliases, and just as many jobs and locations during her life, it is notable that she took action against Germany in WWII. Her unique abilities, while remaining hidden, leant her some esteem and prowess in infiltrating behind enemy lines and she assisted the allies in their surge to take out Hitler's regime.
  • Remaining in Germany for a time, Raven found a lover in a man named Christian Wagner, a German Nobleman. And, for a time it seemed like she would be able to set herself up with a normal life, away from the covert-ops, the running, the hiding, the espionage, and the hatred. For a time, she was almost even happy in this life. Christian eventually gave her a son, and she gladly carried him to term, perhaps lost in the dream she had woven for herself.. A difficult labor 9 months later forced Raven to resume her true, natural form. So reverted, she was almost immediately chased, and hunted. Carrying her son Kurt - who would become Nightcrawler down the peaks, she tossed the infant baby into a ravine, perhaps to spare it the cruelty of the mob if they caught it - for Nightcrawler was as demonic, perhaps moreso, than she in appearance. Or, perhaps it was merely to give her a quicker pace to escape them. She, herself, might not even know.
  • Mystique had concealed her mutant powers and personal intentions so well over the years that under the guise and moniker of Raven Darkholme she was able to rise rapidly through the United States Civil Service to the trusted position of Deputy Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the United States Department of Defense. In the position she was not only given access to sensitive military secrets and data, but also advanced weapons and research which she used to further her own causes. She was removed from this position after an attempt to remove a very powerful weapon from S.H.I.E.L.D. called the Centurion weapon.
  • Rogue and Destiny had known each other since the 1900's, and were to become lovers. During this tenure, they found a very scared young girl named Rogue. Mystique convinced Rogue to stay with them, and for 10 years Raven and Destiny cared and nutured for the girl in what seemed like another brief span of utopia for Raven. Yet, this too would fall ill for the mutant as after Rogue's powers did in fact manifest, as Destiny foretold, Rogue would run away in fear and join up with Xavier's Institute. Mystique would work later to cajole Rogue to work with her and the Brotherhood, but soon Rogue found out that her would-be-mother was only using her and shamefully returned to the X-Men under Wolverine.
  • She would then disguise herself as key individuals in MRPD (Dr. Peterson & Colonel Moss) in order to gain access to the mutant Tilde Soames, an extremely powerful mutant who Magneto planned to use as a weapon against humanity. Ultimately, that planned failed.
  • She has also recently teamed up with Wolverine to save Christie Nord from becoming part of Weapon X. During this break-out, Mystique revealed to Wolverine that they had been on Weapon X together, and they had been lovers. And, in fact, he had saved her from undergoing the same adamantium process that he had been tortured with and put through. She claims to have all the memories he does not, but refuses to give them to him, saying he will never again be the man that she loved.
  • In one of her final acts before disappearing from sight for a little while, Mystique impersonates Senator Kelly, and orders the destruction of Genosha at the hands of the Sentinels at Magneto's command.

Where she surfaces next, or what her plans are - with, or without Magneto, remain to be seen.
