Whatever text to show/hide.
- Patriot - Carol grew up in a household that placed great value in the ideals of the United States, and in service to that country. This was a part of her ideals from the very beginning, and shaped many of her dreams, goals, and the methods she chose to pursue to reach them. She is a fierce patriot, and has a strong sense of duty to that country, even serving at times when she may not fully agree with the policies she is called upon to enact. Even so, she also recognizes that a country's leadership is made of human beings, who can be wrong: she is not just an unthinking automaton.
- The Good Fight - Carol loves a challenge. She spent her earliest years facing those challenges every day to earn her father's respect and prove herself the equal or better of her brothers. She never stopped. She will take on any fight she thinks needs to be fought, no matter the odds, and Heaven help those who side against her: they'll need all the help they can get!
- Confident - Carol is quite confident in her own abilities and judgement. She has had to be, as she has all too often been 'alone against the world' in some iteration or another. Without that self-determinism and confidence, she'd have folded a long time ago. She may come off as arrogant to some, and maybe she is a bit. It's not intentional, and she can back off. But it's not her default.
- Self-Deprecating - Carol is quite aware that she is not without fault. She often makes fun of herself, her foibles and mistakes. She finds herself rather amusing at times. Usually this is endearing, but it can be irksome as well.
- Loyal - Carol forms bonds of deep personal loyalty to others. This largely applies to those she has met - or met again - since her memories were restored by Professor Xavier. She will protect, defend and back up her friends no matter what, often without even pausing to ask herself if she should.
- Inquisitive - Carol has always had an explorer's spirit. This drove her to become a pilot, looking to be an astronaut. It made her an excellent intelligence officer, always looking for the answers. It was one of the driving reasons for her years spent as Binary, wandering the stars, meeting new alien species and more.
- Unrelenting - Carol really doesn't seem to have a 'quit' in her. Beat her down, she crawls back up and keeps going. Cripple her, she'll drag herself off to the next fight. Torture her, and she will bide her time until she can get free and give her own back to her torturers. Once she starts, Carol is unlikely to stop until it's done, or she is explicitly ordered down by someone whose authority she recognizes. And she won't like those orders
- Emotional Void - It's something Carol doesn't like to talk or think about, but it is true: she has a huge hole in her emotional self. She has all of her memories of her early life, all the way up to the moments when she nearly died facing Rogue when the power-draining mutant girl was sent as an assassin by Mystique to kill her. But by and large the emotional content of those memories is nil. She knows, on an intellectual level, that she lived and loved and hated. But she can't /feel/ those things except in the most abstract ways. It makes the emotional bonds she has formed since then that much more intense. But still, that void is there. it's ugly. There's nothing she can do about it. And it's not going to get better.
- Superhuman Strength - Tremendously strong, Carol can normally deadlift fifty (50) tons or so and rupture heavy armor with her punches. By redirecting energy she absorbs (see %xyEnergy Absorption), Carol can augment this greatly, deadlifting in excess of one hundred (100) tons, giving her blows the might to bust apart reinforced bunker walls.
- Superhuman Speed - While no Quicksilver, Carol can rapidly accelerate while running to speeds approaching seventy miles per hour (70 mph). By redirecting energy she absorbs (see %xyEnergy Absorption), Carol can augment this greatly, reaching speeds approaching one-hundred forty miles per hour (140 mph).
- Superhuman Stamina - Carol's enhanced half-Kree physiology doesn't tire from physical activity the way a human would, enabling Carol to maintain peak physical activity for nearly twenty-four hours before beginning to fatigue. She can extend this by channeling energy she has absorbed to further maintain her efforts.
- Superhuman Durability - Carol's very body is inherently more resistant to injury. She can take shots from heavy-caliber weapons, blows of up to fifty tons of force, falls of even terminal velocity, energy blasts and even exposure to extremes of temperature and pressure without any real injury beyond perhaps momentary stunning effects. This is augmented when Carol is channeling absorbed energies, making her even more resistant to damage, able to survive in the vacuum of space for extended periods.
- Superhuman Agility - Carol's agility and coordination, reflexes and balance surpass even the greatest human athletes, making the already ace pilot a frightening force to behold. She can react to an outside stimulus in less than a quarter the infinitessimal time that a peak human athlete or combatant could achieve.
- Flight - Carol has the ability of self-propelled flight with agility far in excess of anything she could have achieved with any plane. She can accelerate to speeds in excess of Mach 3 in atmosphere. By absorbing sufficient energy, Carol is capable of fractional-C speeds in the vacuum of space, sufficient for intra-solar flight if not interstellar.
- Molecular Control - Carol can expend absorbed energy to convert whatever clothing she is wearing into her costume, or convert her costume to civilian clothing with a flare of light as she rearranges those molecules.
- Photonic Blasts - Carol can release from her hands or even fingertips blasts of photonic energy she has absorbed. These blasts are typically concussive or high-heat energy at or just above fifty tons of comparable force. If she has absorbed sufficient other energy, Carol can push these beyond one hundred equivalent tons of force energy. While she may once have been capable of reaching force equivalent to an exploding nuclear weapon (as Binary) that is no longer within her realms of ability.
- Energy Absorption - Carol's body naturally absorbs energy from her environment. When this is merely environmental 'background' energy, it is merely the source for her (currently) normal degree of powers. However, she can and does also absorb much of the energy from energy attacks directed against her. Absorbing these high-intensity forms of energy builds up a charge within Carol's body, which she can then redirect to enhance and augment her powers. Most of the effects of this have been described in the affected powers in question. If she absorbs sufficient energy - quite a lot - Carol's body will begin to erupt with a glow that is very reminiscient of her Binary form.
- Health - Carol's unique physiological amalgamation of human and Kree traits grants her a degree of immunity to most poisons and diseases that affect either species and a virtually indestructible body.
- Electromagnetic Spectrum Manipulation - Though no longer having constant access to the white hole core of power she held as Binary, Carol still has the ability to generate and project heat, light, radiation and other electromagnetic energies, but this now requires that she absorb sufficient energy to power these efforts, usually from directed energy attacks against her, before she can begin. Obviously, this also limits her ability to sustain these effects, and their overall strength of capacity while active, to what she can absorb.
- Self-Healing - Carol does not 'regenerate', like Wolverine or others, on some constant basis. She does heal better and more quickly than a normal human. But most importantly, when she absorbs sufficient outside energy, she can direct that energy to make her body heal itself at an astounding rate. It takes a lot of energy to reach the level to activate this - quite a few energy blasts from high-energy weapons, at a minimum. But if she can activate it, it will heal her of nearly any injury that has not already killed her, restoring her to health within a few minutes. Her costume is rarely so lucky. Hooray for molecular control!
- Languages - Carol's native language is English. In the military, her facility for other languages was discovered and honed, especially while she was with USAF Intelligence. As a result, she has near-native fluency in Russian, German and Japanese. She also has basic conversational fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Farsi and Cantonese. Thanks to her imprinting from the Kree Psycho-Magnetron, she has native-level fluency with Kree and was conversant with several languages of the Kree empire and their allies. Thanks to her time with the Starjammers, she has conversational fluency with Shi'ar, Skrull, Rajaki and several other alien languages.
- Pilot - Carol is an ace pilot with extensive combat experience, including jets, experimental aircraft, and even spacecraft - destroyers and fighters - of various races and empires, especially Kree, Shi'ar and Skrull.
- Firearms - Carol has extensive training and experience in firearms and is an expert marksman, owing as much or more to her time spent in USAF Intelligence than her training as a pilot, and is familiar with a wide range of such weapons, including advanced energy weapons of alien cultures.
- Close Quarters Combat - Carol has extensive training and experience in CQB, armed and unarmed, equivalent of a 'black belt' in multiple styles, including standardized commando training, kenjutsu, Kree and Shi'ar martial arts.
- Journalism - Carol has taken her inquisitive nature and voracious appetite for reading and actually proven herself to be quite an engaging writer, both in novel form and in shorter pieces while working as contributor or editor for multiple publications. She is good at research, but even better at framing the story that is the result of that research.
- Espionage - Carol has extensive training and experience in the methods of espionage, including stealth, disguise, interrogation, resisting interrogation techniques, codebreaking, intelligence analysis, tracking, overcoming security systems and locks, etc.
- Kree - Carol has been imprinted with all of the knowledge and experience of Mar-Vell as a Kree soldier, scientist and citizen, including knowledge of their language, culture, history, science and technology, as well as what Mar-Vell knew of their enemies and allies.
- US Air Force - Carol served in the USAF with distinction, achieving officer candidate status as an enlisted, getting her college education through the GI Bill while still on active duty at the Air Force Academy, and returned to flight status, eventually serving in black ops and top secret development programs, before transferring to Intelligence. She returned as a Colonel in the USAF and is entitled to a partial pension, if she accidentally lives to the ripe old age of 65. She also has a wealth of contacts in the USAF to call upon if she needs them.
- CIA - Though Carol never served with the CIA directly, she flew several missions for the USAF attached to CIA operations, and performed several missions with USAF Intelligence in tandem with CIA operatives. She has contacts there who would help her when they can. Of course, she also has contacts there that would screw her up in any way they can manage given the opportunity.
- NASA - Though Carol joined NASA on a high note and was well respected at the time, and might even have gone on as an astronaut, her time there included quite a few alien incursions and incidents, and she left under a cloud. There are those there that would help her if she asked, but just as many or more that would mess her up given the chance.
- Department of Homeland Security - Carol's work with NASA, and later with SHIELD, both fell under the jurisdiction of the DoHS, and she has a standing clearance with that agency. She is not an active agent, but she could call for information and probably get it, if they have it to give.
- SHIELD - Carol worked with SHIELD many times as an Avenger, and took a job with them briefly while in the early stages of her recovery after alcoholic rehabilitation. She has many contacts with SHIELD, including those as high as Director Fury to those as low as simple field agents, all of whom she could call. Of course, they're as likely to be calling her as well.
- Avengers - Carol is a long-standing member of the Avengers, and once more in good standing despite facing a courts martial regarding her alcoholism a few years ago. She has access to all of the resources, intel and personnel of the Avengers, and they have access to her. Avengers Assemble!
- X-Men - Carol has a long-standing relationship with the X-Men, beginning with contacts with such members as Logan/Wolverine during her days in Intelligence, and continuing to moving in with the X-Men while in recovery and treatment with Professor Xavier after Rogue's attack wiped her memories and erased her powers. She worked with the X-Men against Mystique and her Brotherhood of Evil Mutants even while powerless, and continued into space with them to deal with the threat of the Shi'ar Empire following incidents with the Phoenix. She may not be comfortable with some of their members at times (Rogue!), but she considers the X-Men friends and allies, and would call upon them for help, or go to their aid, at a moment's notice.
- Starjammers - Carol spent years with the Starjammers, first without her powers, and then as Binary, traveling the stars. They are friends and allies, even if they are distant.
- Contacts - Carol has a plethora of contacts around the world, and indeed the galaxy. Those she met and worked with while with the USAF, in and out of Intelligence; those she has met as a heroine and an Avenger; as Binary all over the galaxy; and as a SHIELD agent. She is not shy about reaching out to these people when it is appropriate, and more than a few have reached out to her through the years.
- Residuals - Carol has both significant personal investments, and continuing residuals from her publishing career. These provide her with more than sufficient means to support herself comfortably despite maintaining - and often having to replace - not-small apartments in New York City. Hopefully that will continue.
- Beauty - Even in a world of spandex-clad superheroines, Carol Danvers is big, buff and beautiful. She stands out, she gets noticed. Sometimes she doesn't even mind that, though she prefers to be noticed for what she does, for her mind.
- Genetic Perfection - The imprinting of the Kree Psyche-Magnetron merged Carol's human DNA with that of the Kree. The result was a curiously perfected genetic structure. Even when her powers have been completely drained or erased, that genetic perfection and the ideal health and vitality it offers have remained, leaving her at the peak of human potential, though not superhuman. She tends to be very healthy and rarely if ever gets sick.
- Alcoholism - Carol is an alcoholic. She is in recovery, and she has eighteen months sober. But she is still and always will be an alcoholic. She has a tendency to hold in a lot of negative emotions, and her past habit was to drown those sorrows in alcohol. Those feelings are not going to go away, and it is always possible she could relapse.
- Enemies - Carol has a laundry list and a half of enemies, from her time in the USAF and Intelligence, through her time at NASA, her half a lifetime as Ms. Marvel, and her work with SHIELD. They hate her. They hunt her. And given their chances, they will attack her and those close to her, and do so viciously.
- Weakened Emotional Bonds - Carol can remember her entire life. But most everything up to that terrible evening on the Golden Gate Bridge, confronting Rogue, lacks a certain something. She knows she loved people, hated others, and so forth. But she can't /feel/ those feelings. They are detached and empty memories to her, almost as if they happened to someone else. Most difficult of all is that this has completely removed her ability to connect with her family as anything more than strangers whose names she knows. And this is one of those big reasons why she used to drink.
- Public ID - It is public knowledge that Ms. Marvel, also known as Warbird, is Carol Danvers. It doesn't take much to put the middle names with that. And there have even been Capes profiles on her life. So it's not hard at all for Carol's enemies to know where to find her, in or out of costume. It also makes it hard to keep a relationship going. And that's besides the trouble that almost every date turns out to be an alien or supervillain in disguise or memory loss, or some target of an international conspiracy of global proportions. Such is the life of the publicly known superheroine.
