-----==[ Voodoo Lounge - Greenwich Village ]==--------------------------------

One must descend a flight of black slate stairs flanked by walls papered in rock concert programs before discovering...

This is no ordinary urban mecca. This is no sports bar, no yuppie hipster watering hole. This... is the famed Voodoo Lounge. The lights are recessed into the wall, and of a golden hue, dimmed low enough that one can see where one is going, but still be able to consider the atmosphere intimate. People more than a dozen feet away will appear as mere shadows until one is right up on them. The walls are paneled in mahogany wood. The bar, that travels down the left side of the room is teak with a black marble top, polished to a fare-thee-well. Taps are visible just past the lip of the countertop. There's a recess in it so that a bartender can slide drinks to the waiting patrons. Behind the bar, the expected mirror -- this one beveled on the edges. Glasses and more elaborate drinkware hangs upside down from a wooden rack above.

The barstools appear to be leather and wood, but they are reinforced to handle patrons of superhuman size. The floor is carpeted in plush brown carpet, thick enough to sink into, though nothing seems to ever reach it if anything is spilled. There are cozy tables and booths clustered at the front and back of the room. A long, thickly stuffed leather sofa, also in brown, is along the entire front wall and side wall. A hidden moving light casts random shapes and sigils around the room in muted hues -- slowly enough so it's ambience-enhancing rather than disorienting. Potted palms flank the door and stand in the corners. There are hanging plants above the tables, leaves dripping lazily down toward the floor, but not enough to impede anyone there. Carefully hidden speakers pipe music into the room that varies from the contemporary to the exotic. There is no television behind the bar. The back wall has a floor-to-ceiling fountain that trickles away serenely. A few feet in front of the back wall is a modest stage, also set with small tables if there's no one performing. The entire vibe is like someone set a bar in a cozy little alcove in some exotic place far removed from New York City.

Restless sleep is better than sleepless nights, except when the restlessness is due to nightmares.

Atlantis, (once) a beautiful, thriving mecca of advanced technology blended with a vibrant magic. Topaz stands atop a hillside overlooking the ringed city of yesterday and tomorrow. She knows it is before the fall, and even though the wind whips through her hair, she knows this is a vision, dream, or something impressionistic.

Watching the city for moments more, Topaz will take note of the setting sun and how the rays reflect off the city walls giving off a radiant golden glow. Quite peaceful. Then looking to the east, she will note the rise of the moon just as the sun disappears beneath the horizon.

The wind becomes chilly and the sounds of screaming draws her attention to the city below. Fire has erupted within the central districts (circles) that ring the citadel in the center of the city. The citadel is bathed in an eerie deep purple light. Her vision becomes sharper, as if she's standing within the city herself (clairvoyance) and sees that which attacks the city is a host of demons. They emerge from the citadel and rush throughout the city tearing down the gates.

Topaz's vision penetrates deeper within the city into the citadel itself. Passing the ante chambers and finally into the great throne room. Where the emperor would sit has been usurped by another, a vile creature who is bent on world domination: Lilith, Mother of Demons (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/lilth1.htm ). She commands her forces, her Lilin, to destroy all in their path, to reshape the world in her image, to dominate with an iron fist and subjugate all that remain alive, in her name under her power.

Topaz realizes that seeing Lilith upon the throne also gives way to Lilith seeing her. The sharp demonic eyes of the vile creature penetrates the clairvoyance and pierces Topaz's own in painful blades meant to carve out the orbs. The stabbing pain is what wakes Topaz from her nightmare.

She finds herself sitting at the bar, head down on the bar with a touch of drool. The bar is closed, but almost time to open. She fell asleep while taking a break from cleaning.

Sitting up, Topaz looks around, still lost in the dreamy daze. It takes a few moments for reality to sink in and she realizes that it was just a dream, even though there is doubt even of that. She gets up and moves around the bar, dampening a napkin to wipe her face with before proceeding to quickly prep for opening. As she works her mind replays her sleeping visions, putting together what she knows and what her dream show up, looking for symbolic meaning. Once prep work is done she goes to unlock the frontdoor.

It's still early in the day and just before opening, two waitresses arrive (Paula, Katie) - both serve as waitress and bartender - depending on need - along with the barback <slash> short order cook (Sammy, for warming peanuts, fries, or running next door to get a burger for a patron). Once the bar is officially up and running a few patrons mingle through on their daily passings (some regulars, mostly not). Then around 1pm, The Thing walks into the establishment and lumbers up to the bar. He's wearing his overcoat and trying to be inconspicuous. He leans against the bar and says, "What's a mug gotta do to get a beer round here?"

"Khush aamdeed, Ben." Topaz greets the Avenger as he comes up to the bar. He has been in her establishment at least once before, and he has a face that you just don't forget "A please will do nicely." she smiles at her teasing and moves to grab a mug and fill it from the tap. She doesn't need to be told what particular beer he wants, it seems she has some instinctual ability to just know what a person wants to drink...or in some cases needs.

That request brings a smile to Ben's rocky mug as he says, "Pretty please with sugar on it, doll face." He'll gladly take the beer and drink some which is followed by a sleeve to wipe his mouth from beer dribble.

Since it isn't all that busy yet, Topaz feels no need to wait on any of the tables at the moment, so stays behind the bar, mixing drinks as the waitresses bring her the orders. Since there aren't that many she has ample time to chat "It has been months since you have dropped in for a visit. You have been well?"

After another drink and then placing the beer mug back onto the bar, the Thing notes, "It's been a little crazy, but I'm doin pretty good. How bout you?". He then wipes his mouth with his sleeve just to be sure - one can never be too careful about food or drink on the face.

"I have been well." Topaz states as she sets a couple of sodas on a tray for the waitress to deliver. "I did a bit of traveling. Went to California for a few weeks." despite her years spent in America she still has an Indian accent, but it is not so thick that she can't be understood "Would you care for another or is that your lunch time limit?" she grabs the empty mug to either refill it or set it in the barsink depending on his answer.

He thinks about the second beer and then handwaves, "Nah. I'm on my way to Yancy Street and I best be in my right mind to deal with those punks. Thanks though."

The Thing pushes away from the bar, inhales deep as he's reticent to push on, but he is on a 'mission' and knows that he's got to do it.

The empty mug goes into the sink "Namaste Ben." the young bartender says as the large rocky man departs. Topaz then goes about her bartender business. Checking the stock of alcohol in the fridges, etc. She'll wait on those customers that come to the bar for drinks and offer a pleasant greeting along with their drink and a willing ear should then want to chat.

Ben exits. An hour passes before another significant/named patron enters the bar. Daimon Hellstrom. He wears the trappings of an Italian business suit and expensive shoes - a price that would feed a small African nation for several weeks. He's always been known to be easy to look at, charming, and not one to trifle with - even though he's on the 'good' side of self-serving. The Son of Satan moves to the bar and takes a seat while eyeing Topaz with a lecherous slant of desire.

Turning from the shelves behind her Topaz gives her usual Urdu greeting "Khush Aamdeed." though there is a bit of a pause, either she recognizes him or she just isn't used to getting such finely dressed clintele at this time of day. She has no need to use her empathic sense of this customer, the expression says it all "What can I get for you?" she gives him the same welcoming smile that all of her customers get.

"It's what I can get for you, Topaz." states Hellstrom with an upward inflexion on the /you/ in his sentence. "I believe that you - being who you are - may have suffered a disturbing vision of the past which will lay waste to the present - if she isn't stopped."

Her smile fades and her expression becomes wary as she stares at Hellstorm "You say my dream was no dream but a warning?" she glances around making sure no one is paying attention to what they speak of "Sent by whom? Not by her, certainly." given Topaz's past she is learly of speaking the names of powerful creatures, demon or otherwise, just in case they are listening.

"Sent by no-one. But you, you're special. Of the Atlantean sort. Like Jennifer Kale who likely suffered the same vision. Lilith, Mother of Demons, indisposed for thousands of years within the belly of the Leviathan by those same Atlanteans who were plagued by her and her Lilin - her children. Now that the Leviathan has been discovered and cut wide, she, the Mother of Demons was given a new birth from its inners. And now she will surely seek her children to relive that horror she inflicted upon Atlantis."

Topaz's nostrils flare as she exhales sharply, almost as if she were trying to clear it of the stench of demons. "And what part do you play in this?" she begins to mix a drink, despite the fact that no one has ordered one in the last few minutes.

Hellstrom smiles, "Well, since you obviously have been out of circulation for a time, allow me to introduce myself. 'Daimon Hellstrom', son of Satan - at your service." there's a brief dramatic pause allowing her to search for the name and likely recall hearing of him or outright knowing of him through the proper mystical channels as well as he being a former member of the Defenders.

Continuing he states, "As you may well know, I stand to benefit whether or not Lilith is successful. Yet, I'm inclined toward the preservation of humanity - as it offers many pleasures. Not to mention, beauties." his latter remark implying toward present company.

There is a nod at the name "I am familiar with your family." probably both in name, deed and of course her dealings with Satana in the past "I too have a remarkable fondness for humanity." she relaxes not that she is sure he isn't here to cause her trouble. Placing the drink she prepared in front of Hellstorm, if only to keep up appearances. Needless to say it is probably something he would have ordered had he the inclination "And pleasures with beauties." she comments, seeming to know full well which direction his brain would take given the chance.

"So, beautiful; what do /you/ intend to do about it?" asks Hellstrom in a curious tone of regard to plans that she's formulated or formulating. He follows up with, "I hear Strange is /out of town/ in the Quadraverse. I'm guessing he's not the man of the hour. But his apprentice, Rintrah is around, I'll bet he could be of some help."

"Besides stopping her and sending her back to where she belongs?" its a rhetorical question so Topaz continues without waiting for affirmation or other comment "I will have to do some research and consult with Rintrah, since Doctor Strange is on sabatical." she doesn't confirm as to where "Are we on limited time or do we need to hurry? I have a few people I could call on for assistance if need be.

Hellstrom shrugs, "I'm sure Lilith has a few pieces to get into place, some breeding to do, and some demons to birth.... we've got time."

Never touching the drink, the Son of Satan pushes away from the bar and starts for the door. A business card is left on the bar that reads, "Hellstrom Investigations <address/phone number>.

He notes, "Call me. We'll do lunch."

Picking up the card in one hand and the drink in the other, Topaz glances at the first as she downs the second. He might not have needed the drink but knowing what is coming she certainly does. Her eyes follow the rest of the way out. Once he is gone she gestures for one of the waitresses to cover the bar and hurries upstairs.
