Character Details

History

Although his mother was killed in a car accident, Johnny became interested in automobiles, becoming a rather skilled mechanic early on in life.

So skilled, Johnny found himself as part of Reed Richard's crew alongside his sister for a space flight. (Despite that, does anyone else find something wrong with taking a 15 year old kid up on such a trip? What kind of idiot would even think that's a good id- Oh hey Reed. Just talking about that fantastic space flight.) Unfortunately no one took into account that cosmic radiation. Oops. {There's got to be some violation of child labor laws in here somewhere…}

Finding himself to be all flamey when the flight crashed, Johnny dubbed himself the Human Torch in honor of a World War II hero of the same name.

For a little bit he tried the secret identity routine but considering Reed and Sue's being publicly known as Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman. It was a lost cause.

Despite being known as the Human Torch some idiot thought it would be a nifty idea to bully Johnny. This lasted until Johnny sort of um… burned him. The Idiot, apparently not wanting to admit he was hassling the young hero to start with (Kind of seemed stupid in retrospect, didn't it, huh?), said his burns came from a prank gone wrong and that Johnny actually saved his life.

Johnny tried college. Met a gal named Crystal. The relationship ended up being the same way Crystal seemed to like her men. Fast. (Hmmph. Stupid Quicksilver) It didn't work out. Come to think of it, neither did college so he dropped out.

But Johnny will bounce back in the relationship world dang it! He starts dating Alicia Masters (Sorry Ben! …Or is he?) And eventually he gets married to her.

Only it turns out it's not Alicia but a Skrull named Lyja posing as Alicia. (Don't you just hate it when aliens pose as other people and you end up marrying them?) Johnny ends up witnessing the death of Lyja after discovering Lyja was carrying his child.

Bummer.

Personality

Thrillseeker - Johnny does so well with the superhero gig and a large portion could be attributed to the exciting, action packed moments that come with it. It's like Race Car driving only, neater! Sweet!

AnnoyingBrother - Johnny has a big sister. It is his right, no! His RESPONSIBILITY to be aggravating. It's done out of love. Really.

Prankster - Ok, so maybe the annoying bit isn't reserved for his sister. He loves pulling pranks. Ben gets the brunt of this due to his general proximity. Lucky Ben!

Fear of Hurting People - With great power comes- Oh sorry wrong script *tosses Spider-man script over shoulder* Ok, we have a pretty content guy here. At least outwardly. But he does have that nagging concern of what-if. What-if he looses control around people near him? What-if he ends up hurting the people who trusts him? It's not a very fun thought process and may have a bit of an affect with certain types of relationships later on.

Powers

• NOVA FLAME: So how hot can he get? Johnny likes to call this his Nova Flame. Released in all directions this gets to approximately 1,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Scary huh? Kind of makes you wonder WHY he'd do this. Well, this effect can happen quickly when he takes in an extremely large amount of heat into his body and although he can suppress it when that happens, that does take effort.

• DAMAGE SHIELD: So how does this work? Well remember that really hot flame thingy? (Hints: Starts with 'No', ends with 'va') Well you got a wide range of temperatures leading up to that 1,000,000 mark. And chances are, what's being used against him can be melted. HOW CONVENIENT.

• ROCKET FLIGHT: Heat rises and with this general logic and the already established info, so does Johnny.

• SKY WRITE: When there's fire there's typically smoke. And when the source of the fire is capable of flying around, well. Anyone want to pay Johnny to do some advertising in the sky?

• CAGES BARRIERS RESTRAINTS: Johnny can make lots of fun little shapes using his powers and with such shape shifting abilities. Why NOT make a wall or cage with it? Would YOU want to touch those bars?

• SELF DUPLICATION 10 OTHERS: Yet another thing about the whole shape thing. He can make up to 10 duplicates of his human torch form.

• CONTROL AMBIENT HEAT: Give a little, take a little. Johnny's a walking thermostat.

• INVULNERABILITY TO FIRE AND HEAT: With his maximum temperature being so high and not affecting him. There's not much to explain for this one. He can produce a lot of heat and he can live through that heat too. So uh. Rethink the whole fight fire with fire concept if you're fighting Johnny Mmmm kay?

• FLAME GENERATION / PROJECTION: Johnny's got a Nova flame and then he's got the regular and more common type of flame, which we'll just call a flame. He can generate flames. Whoda thunk with a guy who is basically a walking fireball? They don't even have to be in contact with him. He can even shoot them. Neato! Pew pew!

Skills

• RACE CAR DRIVING: If being a superhero, quasi astronaut wasn't enough, one of his former occupations was that of a Race Car driver. Very highly skilled too. Oh Marvel. You silly thing you.

• EXPERT AUTO MECHANIC AND DESIGNER: A former Automobile mechanic and designer, Johnny's no idiot when it comes to cars. Which is a good thing considering one of his other former occupations.

• HAND TO HAND COMBAT: Despite all the pranks, softhearted Ben has been kind enough to help train Johnny in Hand to Hand combat. Thanks Ben!

Resources

• FANTASTIC FOUR: Ben, Sue, and Reed. They've got to be good for something, right? Well, yeah there's also that whole …family thing that Sue likes referencing. Plus considering they were in the shuttle thing together that does allow for a bit of comraderie there, even if there wasn't for the whole being related factor. And come on. Reed. You come into a problem, Reed's probably got some invention somewhere in the back of his closet that just HAPPENS to help out in that type of situation. That's pretty darn useful. Ben's ok too.

• SUPERHERO COMMUNITY: Even if that family can't get it done, there is this fantastic superhero community out there willing to help. And being that he's publicly known it's getting easy to get help from this area when needed. Although this help goes both ways but hey, why can't we all get along anyways? =)

• BAXTER BUILDING: Know what's great about the Baxter building? Johnny's got a room where he's less likely to melt his furniture. Because there's not much more aggravating than waking up and finding yourself on the floor within a pile of ash.

• ALLOWANCE: Thank goodness for the money being brought in by the business minds that are kept on salary. Since all that superheroing has a tendency to take up a lot of time. He gets a bit of money to tide him over each month for the things that aren't already provided

• UNSTABLE MOLECULE UNIFORM: Ok let's review. Johnny can get so hot that he can vaporize things that come near him. He is a walking, flying, sprinting, shooting ball of flame. This has GOT to wreak havoc on the wardrobe budget. But no fear censors! As much as the fan girls might appreciate him flame-offing in the buff due to clothes burning away, we have a uniform made just right so he doesn't have to bare all. Sorry girls.

Specials

• PUBLIC IDENTITY: Ok this is kind of a back and forth on the good/bad meter. Yes, if he has some peeved off people looking for him it's a bit hard to lay low when it's publicly known that you live in a building with a giant four on it. BUT, being public does mean getting the backing of a lot of types as well. Not just the Supers, but the government as well. Plus there's the potential for merchandising options, endorsement deals. Ooooooh.

• HUNGRY HUNGRY HERO: Man can Johnny burn those calories! And also, man can he eat! Sue must be jealous with how much Johnny can just pack away without gaining a thing.

Flaws

• LACK OF OXYGEN: You need Oxygen to live and you need it to burn.

• FIRE SMOTHERING MATERIALS: Up to a certain point, fire suppression materials work well against Johnny. (Well, unless he's already hot enough that he's vaporizing things on contact.) But it's still a good way to keep him from getting started

• YOU CAN ONLY BURN SO LONG: You can only burn so long before it gets a bit hard to keep up. This also applies to Johnny. Geez. Isn't 17 hours enough for you folks?

• HELLFIRE: Not going to figure out the why behind this but, that protection from fire just doesn't seem to cover this. Darn.

• FAMILY: Not only can family be a resource (Fantastic Four What what?) They can be a drawback as well. I mean, just HOW often do people try to get to us by going after Sue? And well, dang it, sometimes having to live with the people you work with can really get on your nerves.

• IMMATURE: Ok WHO put this in he- Sue was it you?! Ben?! I AM NOT IMMATURE! If it was you Ben I am SO short sheeting your be- Ok fine. maybe just a little.

• DOCTOR DOOM: Yes he's also technically an enemy but he gets his own line because. Well, he's a jerk. I mean, this guy just won't let up. Geez. Really? Doom, you need to get a life, man. Just saying. This revenge revenge REVENGE theme of yours can't be healthy for your ticker.

• ENEMIES (HUNTED BY): Geez, do a few heroic deeds (Ok a lot) and everyone's just out for blood. Ok yeah, we're public figures now and I guess there's something symbolic about taking one of us out but is it wrong for these people to maybe try other things to build a rep rather than flat out going for the upper level? Come on guys. Work. Your. Way. Up.

• HEAT SIGNATURE (GIVES OFF HEAT): Where there's smoke there's fire. And where there's fire, there's usually heat being given off. What does this mean? Johnny's going to have a hell of a time trying to pull off a Shwartzenegger if Predator decides to do a Marvel crosso- Oh it's been done? Silly fanfic writers.
