Early Life

Born the second son of Katherine Anne and her husband Christopher Summers, Alex was quite happy in his younger years. He idolized his elder brother, by just a few years, Scott. Their father was an Air Force Test Pilot and quite the American Iconic Hero. He would often take the family on flights about the country. Their early years were spent in Hawaii and then later wherever their father was stationed. Which found many remote locations. Their mother was the main constant in their lives and she was the family anchor.
It wasn't until a vacation/camping trip to the wilds of Alaxka that the family saw true strife in the form of loss. During a flight in the small family plane, they were attacked by an alien craft. The small plane stood no chance against the onslaught and in the chaos their father put a parachute on the both of them and pushed them out of the plane. As they fell, they saw the plane being torn apart by the space ship's death rays. Falling toward the ground, the boys tried to open the chute, it failed as it had caught on fire from the explosion, and in the panic, Scott's mutant power surfaced in the form of projected energy from his eyes. Projecting it downward, it slowed the descent of the two enough so as the impact would not kill them. However, they did receive mild amnesiac like concussions which clouded their memories of the past, at least until later in life.

Growing Up

What happened after the crash remained a haze for most of his adolescent life. During that time, Alex and Scott were both taken and placed in an orphanage within Omaha, Nebraska by a man named Nathaniel Essex who took an interest in Scott over Alex. Essex was in reality a very evil man named Sinister and it was the surfacing of Scott's power that drew his attention. Alex was pushed aside and allowed to be adopted by a family who's name was Blandings. They adopted Alex in an attempt to replace their son Todd who had been killed in a car accident. They had a daughter named Haley and shortly after the adoption, she and Alex were kidnapped by the boy who killed the prior son. During the trauma, Alex manifested his powers for the first time and incinerated the boy. Sinister arrived surprised by the power that Alex displayed but due to his lack of control, he left them be except for erasing their memories of the incident and allowing Alex to continue his life with this family.
Years would past and over that time Alex suppressed memories of his brother and the airplane crash (the concussion of that time also helped him forget). Throughout his teens he was very rebellious and didn't follow the standard inhibitions that most would. However, he always maintained good grades in school which earned him a scholarship at the University of California in Berkeley. Still in college, he suffered an internal rage that would keep him in trouble, yet his grades didn't suffer.

College Days

During college, Alex never truly gained a control over his anger, but he was able to partially channel it into something a little more constructive. Geology. He loved rocks. They were something stable for him, something he could really anchor himself into.
Over the next 5 or so years, Alex would associate himself with Archeology digs and 'rent' himself out as their geologist. Geologists are important on these digs to help identify geographic/geologic formations and help the archeologists to work better with the earth formations. He acted as a gopher and a field hand mostly, but it was still rewarding for him so he continued.
He finally graduated UC Berkeley and when the opportunity presented itself, he landed a job with a renown archeologist named Ahmet Abdol. Ahmet was a mutant known as the Living Pharaoh which seemed to share a bond with the young Alex and recognized him as a mutant. Abdol soon realized that Alex was unconsciously blocking the use of his own powers and also realized that Alex may be a source for more power for Abdol. They both traveled to Egypt which is where things would then turn badly for Alex.

Conflict and X's

Once they reached Egypt, Abdol had a plan to utilize Alex's hidden mutant potential to control cosmic energy for his own designs and to further boost his own power at Alex's expense. Abdol lured Alex into a containment area which would siphon off the cosmic power that Alex possesses. In doing so, the Living Pharaoh was able to gain the control over his own power and absorb Alex's cosmic energies. The Living Pharaoh was then converted into the Living Monolith, a gigantic mutant who could control cosmic energies.
Learning of the danger, the X-Men then made haste to Egypt to put a stop to the rampaging mutant. The X-Men went into battle against the Monolith. It was when Alex's power overloaded the machine was he freed from the containment module, which turned the battle in the favor of the X-Men.
Once the battle was over, Scott and Alex met for the first time in years, but it was not known to either of them that they were brothers. Deciding to stay in Egypt to complete the job he was originally hired to do, Alex remained behind to confront not only that job, but the need to learn to control his own abilities. The X-Men departed.
No sooner had the X-Men left Egypt had Alex been confronted by another threat in the shape of a gigantic robot known as a Sentinel. With little difficulty, Alex was defeated by the robot and then taken to a secret laboratory of Larry Trask, the inventor of the Sentinel Robot series.
Trask took note of Alex's power issues and designed a suit to contain and focus his powers. The suit was basicly black, but as the power within Alex grew, white circles would appear from the chest and extend outward like a target thus detailing that Alex was like a cosmic battery and eventually needed to discharge this power else a chance of overloading the suit would occur. Trask also donned the name Havok on Alex as a codename in regards to the potential of his powers.
The X-Men returned to Egypt once again and saved Alex from Trask and his Sentinels. During the conflict, many of the X-Men were injured and needed to seek non-conventional help. They learned of a man named Lykos who promised to give aid to them. However, Lykos was a mutant with the ability to leech power from humans; however, when he would drain Mutants, Lykos would shift into the form of Sauron, a pterodactyl-oid. When he encountered Alex's power, Lykos tried to drain some of the mutant's power which forced Lycos into the form of Sauron. The team was able to drive Sauron off, and they too then departed. Alex then returned to Salem Center with the team and with the assistance of Xavier, Alex and Scott learned they were the long lost siblings (much therapy would ensue after this revelation).

The X-Men

Alex Summers, AKA Havok stayed with the X-men for a time, yet never really joined them fully. He learned to control his powers and became quite a capable combatant in the process. He and his brother Scott spent much of this time learng of each other's lives and it was also during this time that Alex started to show the first signs of resentment toward his brother and his 'holier than thou' attitude.
Then came the distraction in the form of a 5'8", legs all the way up to heaven, green haired girl named Lorna Dane. Alex was suddenly smitten the moment he laid his eyes on her. There was only one problem, she was already involved with Bobby Drake, AKA Iceman.
After some wooing and of course conflict with Iceman, Havok eventually won the eyes of Lorna. They both spent much time together within the X-Mansion and learned to control their powers together while they also learned that they had so much in common, their love for Geophysics for one. Also during this time they would assist the X-Men when needed, but they preferred to study and try to live a normal life.
It wasn't until a mission, with the X-Men, against the living island of Krakoa; did they realize that heroic life wasn't for them and they wished to leave the mission and head out on their own. They claimed not to be the "adventurous type(s)'.

The So-Called 'Quiet Life'

They both ventured west to UC Berkeley where they both worked on a doctorate in geology and geophysics. As time went by, they were given access to the Diablos mountain range in Arizona where they conducted research together toward their doctorates.
It wasn't long before they were abducted by Erik the Red in his plight to prevent the meeting of Xavier and the alien Lillandra. During this time Polaris gained her final code name of Polaris. What started out as an abduction and attempt to make them pawns, turned out to be another X-Men battle on Muir Island where the X-Men were presumed dead until the Phoenix showed up and sorted out the details thus giving aid to Xavier and Lillandra.
Even trying to return to their normal lives, the two were drawn into another plot, via threats to innocents, by Arcade to have them attack Dr. Doom. The two turned around and were able to free the innocents and Arcade was routed before the plot would be brought to light. During a time with the X-Men on a 'assist mission', Alex and Lorna, along with Scott met the Starjammers and Corsair finally identified himself as the father of Alex and Scott. It was shortly after that, the two brothers had a reunion with Christopher Summers and were introduced to their true grandparents in Alaska.
Things went well until one day when Lorna disappeared. He couldn't find her and in all his searching he ended back up at the X-Mansion to seek help. He arrived toward the end of the 'Mutant Massacre' and learned of Polaris' abduction by Malice and her subsequent affiliation with the Marauders.

Conflict of Green and Death

During the next few months the Marauders would face the X-Men in epic battles which would see Malice nearly killing Alex each time. This external struggle (the loss of Polaris to an unreachable enemy) would be compiled with his internal struggle (the living within his brother's shadow and the loss of control over his powers).
It was then, the main team of the X-Men were sent off to face the Adversary and with the aid of Forge, they gave their lives to close the portal that would seal the Adversary off from the world. This happened in Dallas and the rest of the world assumed the X-Men were all dead. Instead, a prisoner of the Adversary called Roma, was freed and re-created the X-Men from scratch and planted them in the western Australia desert giving them new lives and the ability not to be seen by electronic means. They immediately confronted the Reavers and took over the villains base. The team were defined as two distinct groups. Which showed Alex, Madelyne Pryor, Colossus, Storm, Dazzler, and Psylocke in Australia as the X-men while in the other part of the world, the original X-Men retained the guize as X-Factor to confront villainy in New York City.
During this time, Alex and Madelyne found themselves growing closer together as they both had a common history of being jilted lovers. Madelyne lost Scott to another woman, and Alex was still without Lorna due to some evil. Madelyne in truth was a clone of Jean Grey imbued with a touch of the Phoenix force and had made pacts with the Demon N'astrith to destroy Scott out of revenge. So, she began to pit brother against brother. Eventually the truth came out about Madelyne's history and thus came the Inferno where she would become the Goblin Queen and Havok her slave. In trying to destroy the son of Jean and Scott, she was killed and Alex found more guilt in his life.
There were many other conflicts and eventually Alex was mentally contacted through dreams and psychic impressions by his former love Lorna. She was discovered to be in the Savage Land and being held hostage by Zaladane (a woman claiming to be Lorna's sister). Zaladane had stripped Lorna of her magnetic powers and Lorna had become more brickish. Reunited, the two would battle Zaladane but eventually return to Australia via Gateway.
Psylocke had a precognitive impression that the X-Men would lose their next battle against the Reavers and subsequently tricked the team into entering the Seige Perilous.

Magistrate Havok

Alex, not knowing who he truly was, ended up in Genosha, a country that enslaved Mutants and used them to make the normal's lives better. He was drafted and soon became a high ranking Magistrate in the Genoshan Army. It wasn't until the X-Tinction Agenda where he encountered Rahne. He had not yet gained his memory, not until he came face to face with his brother Scott and in a heated battle, his memories surfaced. He kept those memories to himself so as to get close to the head of the Genoshan government, Cameron Hodge. It was then seen in a final battle that Alex landed the killing blow against Hodge. The Genoshan government would subsequently fall and instead of returning with the X-Men, Alex and Rahne remained to help the rest of the Mutates find freedom from a still oppressed society.
X-Factor

Months later, still with Rahne, Havok is approached by Valerie Cooper and invited to join a new United States Government team called X-Factor. He declines until he is informed that Lorna is already a member. Accepting, Alex took Rahne with him and they found their new homes in Washington D.C. right along with Guido, Jamie Madrox, Quicksilver, and of course Lorna Dane.
During their first few months, the new team took their lumps and finally learned about teamwork and actually working together. They fought many villains and soon Alex learned of Rahne's affections. He struggled with his internal strife once again in the guise of still living with his older brother's successes, his former love for Lorna, his considerations of Rahne, and his external struggles of trying to lead a Government team, and facing many villains a week.

IMMUNITY TO PLASMA: Havok's body generates plasma naturally. He is immune to his own power as well as any other super heated plasma. This does not mean he's immune to Radioactive, Electrical, or Magnetic Plasma, just Fiery Plasma. This immunity extends to other forms of cosmic radiation which he absorbs and converts to Plasma (see power absorption). However, if he is exposed to a high level of cosmic radiation for extended periods of time, he would need to constantly expel the converted plasma within him.

OPTIBLAST RESISTANT: Due to his genetic makeup, Alex is immune to his brother's optiblast. This blast does not affect him what-so-ever except for the concussive force it generates. The feeling is mutual as his attacks do not affect Scott. This has not yet been discovered, but if they ever get into a fight…

COSMIC ENERGY ABSORPTION: Alex's mutant ability is to absorb Cosmic Radiation and convert it to fiery plasma to be projected at what ever target he desires. Cosmic Radiation is defined as Starlight, Cosmic Waves, Background Microwave Radiation, Background Gamma Radiation and similar cosmic energies found extra planetary which bombard the Earth on a daily basis. His body acts as a battery in this absorption and from a complete drain, he's able to recharge himself within 16.5 hours to reach a peak load. As with any battery, he must discharge this gained and converted energy within every 32 hour period otherwise he will have gained enough energy in his body to produce an uncontrolled spontaneous discharge of this energy in the form of a globe of plasma that would surround his body and completely drain him for another 16.5 hours leaving him weakened and with a headache. Alex normally tries to expel enough energy every 24 hours so as to prevent this from happening.
Special note: The Earth is shielded from most Cosmic Radiation by the Van Allen Radiation Belts and the atmosphere. If Alex was removed from the Earth, and taken out of a shielded environment (space ship/station, other planetary body with atmosphere and natural shielding), he would be exposed to more Cosmic Radiation at a higher level and thus need to expel or discharge his energy stores more frequently.

PLASMA BLAST: Havok has the ability to absorb cosmic radiation (starlight, microwaves, gamma rays…) and within him converts this energy into white hot fiery plasma. These blasts are directed down both of his arms and focused toward what ever target he deems fit. He is also able to direct these blasts in two separate directions if he parts his arms.
His blasts have no concussive force. However, in it's projection, the air molecules that are being atomized in the path of the blast along with the atoms that the blast impacts with are atomized and create a force associated with an explosion as those atoms are projected outward during the atomization phase.
Havok does not have fine manipulation of his power. He cannot narrow the beam down to some fine laser and cut items like a torch would. However, he can control the distance by which the beam travels before it dissipates. His normal maximum range is 100 yards before the beam naturally dissipates.
If Havok does not discharge enough energy within a given amount of time, he will overload. An overload discharges all his power at once in an uncontrolled ball of plasma that will surround his form until all of his energy is depleted.

GEOLOGY: Alex obtained his BS degree at UC Berkeley in geology. It is his passion and something he knows quiet well. In this, he pressed on toward Geophysics in later years and received a PhD in the field from the same university after doing his thesis on the geographic qualities of the Diablo Mountain Range in Arizona.

ARCHEOLOGY: During Alex's undergraduate, and graduate studies, he would spend much time working for, and with Archaeologists on their digs. During this time, Alex learned much about Archeology and though he doesn't use it often, he's familiar with various cultural histories.

HIKING-CAMPING: Over the years of following around archaeologists, doing his own research, and other wilderness adventures, Alex has become an expert hiker and camper. He's had to learn all the ins and outs of this skill to reach the remote locations that his life has taken him and he's become very adapt at doing just what it takes to make it out there.

EVERYMAN SKILL: Alex Summers has been exposed to various levels of general and common technology such as computer operation, vcr programming, dvd playing, TiVo tuka-tuka'ing, vehicle driving and so on.

TEAM COORDINATION: Due to constant team exercises, Havok is able to operate in the team unit with significant skill. This includes, but is not limited to; knowing individual strengths and weaknesses, knowing individual powers and effects, knowing when and how to strike, knowing team tactics, etc.

HAND TO HAND: Havok has been exposed to basic hand to hand and self defense techniques through the basic training and other specialized classes presented by the military to members of X-Factor.

LEADERSHIP: Havok is innately skilled with leadership qualities. This allows him to help focus on the task at hand, direct, and organize others.

COMBAT: Alex has trained with the X-Men for the many years he's associated with them. He has gained many skills in the use of powered and non powered combat (hand to hand and weapon usage). Most of this training was seen under Wolverine and can be classified more as brawling than anything else. He often relies on his powers to come out victorious in any combat situation.

GENERAL: In the present, Alex supplements his income through grants and funds associated with his geophysics field work. Alex has never really been one to overspend or want to be mega rich, so he's modest with his income and just takes what he requires. Also he owns a Jeep.

X-FACTOR: Being a member of the team X-Factor, Havok can call upon the team or individual members in time of need.

COSTUME: Havok's original costume was designed by Larry Trask. It was designed to help Alex contain and project his powers along with show a level of which Alex had stored and converted his cosmic energy. During his first encounter with the X-Men, that suit was destroyed and shortly thereafter, Professor Xavier crafted a new suit of similar design for Alex. Over the years, Alex has seen different designs, and finally he's settled upon a blue and yellow design with a jacket as he's become a member of X-Factor. It also provides Excellent resistance to physical attacks such as simple gunshots or projectiles of Excellent physical damage.

LORNA: Lorna Dane has always been a love interest for Alex over the many years of his life. More than he can count. Alex has always thought of her as an equal and they share many common interests such as their interest in geology and for one another. Though they have been seperated for a lengthy time, he's always kept her in the back of his mind. However, she's also part of his internal struggle. He's never made the final step to ask her to marry him because of his own internal conflicts with rage and the lack of control he has over his own life. Therefore, he has much growing to do before he's able to make that step, if he is ever able.

GRANDPARENTS: Alex's grandparents, Philip and Deborah Summers live in Anchorage, Alaska. Thanks to his father, Christopher, he recently learned of their existance and has visited them often in the recent past like they once did when he was a child. They own and operate a small air freight business and always welcome Alex with open arms

RESOURCES: In the past, Alex would normally suppliment his income through grants and funds associated with his geophysics field work. Currently he works for the United States Government and through them he has an excellent healthcare plan along with being paid enough to fill his needs. Alex has never really been one to overspend or want to be mega rich, so he's modest with his income and just takes what he requires.

CORSAIR: Christopher Summers is Alex's father. He is till alive and currently is the leader of the Starjammers. When Alex first learned of his father's livelyhood, he had mixed emotions and wonders why Christopher never came back for the siblings. These thoughts only serve to drive a wedge between the two of them and even between Alex and Scott. Corsair is only in this section for reference and it's not likely he will be called upon or used in any future plotlines. Though would make for an interesting story if they do encounter one another again.

X-MEN: Over the years Alex has been an active or reserve member of the X-Men and would always come when they were in need. Even now, as he is a member of X-Factor, he would still move to assist his former team members as they came to assist him in Genosha. Their relationship is a two way street as with most former and current X-Men and upon that street he has access to most of their technologies and funds if need be. Yet, he is often too proud or resentful of his brother to utilize said means.

VAL COOPER: Val Cooper is the liaison to X-Factor. Essentially his director/ops manager.

PERSONALITY: Alex has a volitile personality. Most of it based on loss of his real parents, brother, and being raised by foster/adopted parents. He always felt as if he were a 'second class citizen'. If dwelling upon the subject of his childhood, he'll often end up brooding for days until something more pressing comes along. Also see personality traits.

DISCHARGE: Alex continually absorbs cosmic energy. This is often considered a good thing. However, if he does not discharge it sufficiently within a 32 hour period, he will spontaneously release all of the energy in the form of fiery plasma doing damage to his clothing and his immediate environment.

WATCHED-BY-SINISTER: Mr. Sinister once had the means to take Alex from the foster system, but as luck would have it, Sinister was more interested in Scott. However, over the years Sinister has taken an interest in Alex's powers. Currently Sinister is only watching Alex; plotting and planning to use the mutant's powers in some form or fashion.

ANGER: Alex needs Anger Management Classes. He has a sharp and brash temper which is set off by the slightest provocation. He's generally not violent, but very vocal. That vocal can turn to violence with his brother quickly, but after doing serious damage to Iceman that one time over Lorna, he's become a little more restrained physically. These issues have often gotten him into more trouble than he would like. Generally, the best way to deal with his anger is to walk away and allow him to cool down a bit.

SCOTT: One of the greatest internal flaws Alex possesses is the belief that he cannot live outside the shadow of his brother Scott. To Alex, Scott is the perfect leader, perfect boyfriend/husband, and all around perfect role model for his archetype. Alex has always been trying to live up to the image he has created of his older brother and achieve the status his brother has obtained to only have it backfire on him numerous occasions. Many times they will get into a confrontation which will end up in blows and the uses of their powers. These displays will only exhaust one another and not do much physical harm other than minor knockback unless they try to drop a roof on one another.
Alex is constantly trying to prove to himself that he's better than Scott. Alex struggles with this often and it only sets him into an angry depression. In reality, Alex does love his brother. However, the internal struggle he puts before himself is something that will take years of therapy to get over, if he can.

REBEL: Alex has always been rebelious in nature. Even in his youth, he would choose conflict over passive behavior. If given a choice between roads to travel, he would take the one less traveled. This normally brings him into odds with his family and his friends often. Though he's a caring individual, he chooses himself first over his friends. Further, he doesn't like authority figures and given the situation with the Government, he's often resistant to doing things their way. Luckily the go-between, Val Cooper, has tact and the skills to manipulate Alex into doing her wishes.

EASILY USED: Over the years, even before Alex was powered, he was the subject of manipulators. It goes all the way back to Sinister, even though Alex wasn't the focus of Sinister's study (as Scott was), Alex was still caught up in the middle of the whole ordeal. Then through his life from various foster parents to his heroic career that began with the Living Pharaoh, Larry Trask, Sinister again, Arcade, and the list goes on and on. Whether by physical or mental means, Alex has always been caught in the middle of some scheme of some evil (or other) manipulator who would try to gain something through these actions.

Still somewhat estranged, Alex and his father don't talk much and though he misses his father, he would rather not have to go through the pain of lengthy discussions.
Scott Summers	Older Brother	Another relationship that Alex cannot keep on solid ground. Alex and Scott rarely get along and sibling rivalry is clearly defined within the relationship.
Rachel Summers	Other Reality Neice	Alex and Rachel are not close, but they have spoken on various occasion about their lives and how confusing everything is. They seem to bond as the black sheep of the family and have the potential to develop a solid familial relationship.

Mister Sinister	Most Hated Enemy	Sinister is likely the one responsible for the entire domino effect of Havok's post parachute accident life. Alex wishes to kill this man more than any other in the known universe.

The team faced the MLF, X-Force, the new Marauders, Sinister, and all sorts of inter-team turmoil.
Alex and Lorna get back together.
Rahne acts weird.
They break the Washington Monument.
Karma joins the team.
Monet joins the team.
Magik arrives, leaves with Monet.
The base is destroyed by the Marauders.
The team gets payback and kills the Marauders.
Stricken with grief over their actions, X-Factor breaks up.
Lorna needs time to think. Leaves Alex.
Alex and Rahne head back to Xaviers.
Alex falls into depression about recent events. Mopes around the house for months.
Alex encounters a HYDRA operation and assists Spider-Woman against them.
Aurora visits Xaviers. Alex meets her on the patio.
Alex meets Jean Marie in Manhattan. Believes that Aurora and Jeanne Marie are sisters.
Xavier contacts Val Cooper to discuss Alex's current situation.
Cooper redesigns X-Factor and offers Alex the new terms.
Alex accepts and recruits Siryn.
Bar crawl - encounters Juggernaut. Then the Black Tom fiasco occurs.
Alex encouters Jessica Drew.
Lifeguard is met in Cali and then recruited.
Various side adventures happen.
Alex is kidnapped by Arcade. Meets Firestar, they break out of Murderworld! together.
Siryn and Havok are sent to Genosha to give aide to the pro mutant political situation.
Siryn takes a vacation to Muir for 'personal reasons', (alcoholism).
Polaris returns and re-enters Havok's life.
Kurt is recruited into X-Factor
Kurt is kidnapped by Arcade, Heather saves him.
X-Factor investigates the remains of Arcade's last Murderworld!. Discovers Sentinel - given over to Val Cooper.
Heather and her brother are kidnapped by the Imperial Guard. X-Factor tries to stop the abduction. They then plan for a rescue in space. The Starjammers are contacted.
Alex visits Jessica Drew to talk about recent events. On his way to a safe house in Manhattan, he meets Aurora (who acts unlike Aurora or Jeanne Marie - he's confused.
X-Factor, X-Men (Gold) and the Starjammers return to space to rescue Heather. Once successful, they return.
While in the Ready Room, Alex and Kurt discover that Muir island has gone silent. Alex mounts a rescue mission and requests the assistance of Liz (Betsy Braddock/Revanche).
X-Factor arrives in Muir to find Siryn (alongside Maddrox, Moira, and Jamie Braddock) comatose. They wake them and discover that they all lived in some alternate reality for 10 or so years. Siryn is confused and brought back to the X-Mansion where Xavier straightens her out.
Liz is officially brought into X-Factor.
