*Quan Xian born in Beijing, China to Quan Lian a cultural attache to the American Embasy. Xian's father was one of the aides to the American Embassador. Lian never revealed who exactly her father was.
*Xian's powers first show themselves at age 6, scaring the crap out of her mother when her daughter suddenly changed appearance to white hair, black-blue skin and glowing white eyes, and radiating an aura that altered the color of things around her. Xian was throwing a temper tantrum after Lian told her they were moving from Beijing.
*Lian abandons Xian at the American Embassy giving who her father was in a note. Xian's father refuses to acknowledge her, she is sent to the United States.
*Xian ends up in an Orphanage in New York, City. Powers don't show themselves for some time
*At 10, Xian is adopted and renamed to Jean Johnson. Joseph and Martha Johnson are her adoptive parents who had been unable to have their own child due to infertility issues.
*A year later, Joseph loses his job in lay offs and starts drinking. Xian is doing alright in school. Times get rough.
*Two years later, Xian as she still refers to herself is 13, Joseph hasn't worked in all that time. Martha works as a waitress. Joseph gets drunk and tries to force himself on Xian. She resists. Martha gets home just as Joseph hits Xian and knocks her into a wall. Xian is dazed. Martha puts herself between the two, a fight ensues, Joseph beats Martha bloody. Xian recovers to see this and goes ballistic. Her powers awaken again, the dark aura of light forming around her as her hair shifts to white, her skin goes blue-black and her eyes glow white. Its almost as if she were emitting a black light. She howls in fury at Joseph and black light coallesces around each of her hands and then a beam shoot from each hand, leaving a bit of steam in the air and strike Joseph in the chest, and burst out the back. Cauterized holes through his chest keep him from bleeding as he falls, but his heart had been one of the things hit and he dies before he hits the ground. The shock of killing Joseph breaks her out of it and she returns to normal.
*Xian calls 911, claims that she just came home and found them both like that. When asked about the bruises that were appearing on her face and chest now, she claims that Joseph was constantly beating her. Martha dies in the hospital. Xian is taken back into Foster Care, but runs away before her 14th birthday.
*Xian ends up on the street. She does her best to survive while trying to figure out her abilities. She gains enough control to at least activate them most of the time. She starts to call herself Darklight.
*Xian has ran with different gangs over the years and survived them all. She is looking for something different though. She went into hiding during recent events. She just celebrated her 22nd birthday. She has had 9 years to practice her powers, the streets being a strict teacher.
*Xian is working at a waitress at a cafe, she is trying to find legitimate ways to earn money, and so far so good.
*Pessimist: Very little in the way of good things have happened to her so she tends to always see the downsides to most situations, the glass isn't half full, its half empty.
*Curious: Xian is quite curious and it will often get her into trouble, expect her to be the one to push the big red button that says do not push.
*Temper: She does have a temper, and tends to lose control when the time comes. Usually has to do if she or someone she cares about is hurt.
*Semi-Hero: She tries to do the right thing and help people but when you live on the streets, that isn't always possible.
LIGHT MANIPULATION:
Xian is a mutant with the ability of Light Manipulation. The light she manipulates is violet in hue and is akin to what people call a 'black light'. She calls her ability Darklight, the same name she has chosen for her super heroic ID. She is unable to manipulate any other hue. With this ability, she is able to perform three stunts; projection, force field, and rocket flight. These abilities are detailed below.
Xian is able to project high energy photons from her hands that are of a violet hue. These photons move at the speed of light and have a range of 90 yards. The energy is able to penetrate granite, high strength steel, gemstones, solid stone, reinforced concrete, steel, and even volcanic rock.
Xian is able to emit a force field. It is violet in hue and due to the color of the field, it makes Xian's skin appear blue-black, hair and eyes glow white. The force field extends around her in a spherical nature. It extends a foot above her head and a foot beneath her feet. Xian can maintain the force field for up to 5 hours before becoming fatigued. The force field is capable of stopping up to 25 tons of force and other energies that can penetrate solid stone, volcanic rock, steel, or reinforced concrete. But not able to stop energies that can penetrate granite, gemstones, or high strength steel. If the shield is struck by anything stronger than the shield, it will collapse and send a significant amount of feedback to Xian likely knocking her unconscious (depending on the attack (IE: Thor hitting the shield will make her unconscious, but not take any physical damage that particular round)). If she is under constant attack (less than her shield resistance) for an hour, she will be unable to maintain the shield due to fatigue.
Xian is able to project her photons from her lower limbs to cause her to fly. This gives off a violet glow and leaves a minor trail depending on her overall speed. It however makes no noise. At present, Xian is able to fly up to 300 miles per hour, but in doing so she must maintain her force field. At lower speeds (less than 60mph) she does not need to maintain her force field. At high speeds, Xian is able to fly for roughly 2 hours before becoming fatigued. At lower speeds she is able to fly for 12 or so depending on her own needs to eat, potty, or other.
Thanks to her powers, Xian has recently developed the ability to fly and she has had some practice doing this. She is not that good at it, but she is learning.
Xian has learned the basics of unarmed combat, nothing like boxing or martial arts, but the down and dirty street brawling. One has to defend oneself after all.
Xian had to learn to pick pockets shortly after starting to live on teh streets. Given at the time she wasn't all that big and was a bit more on the agile side, she got to be pretty good at it, though she tries not to use it anymore, unless she absolutely has to.
She learned to fight with knives cause after all even knives can give an advantage over brawling and she doesn't really have the muscle mass to go out all brawling with someone.
Xian learned to conceal things in her hands using sleight of hand to fool the eyes of those she was pick pocketting. She picked up a bit of the shell game and 3-card monte too, after all she saw it as slightly better than straight out picking pockets. She is fair at tricks of the hands.
She had to learn to get around without drawing too much attention to herself, for various reasons. Even now years later, this is like second nature to her, and she does it without even thinking about it.
From the time that Xian has spent on the streets, with various gangs and trying to survive on her own, she has learned the ins and outs of who to trust, who to talk to, where to find things she is looking for. While not a master of it, she is fairly adept.
Xian has had to resort to underhanded methods to survive when no other options were available.
Xian was always on the smaller, or at least frailer side physicall, though her time on the streets made her wiry. It was a good idea to learn how to take a fall, and other tumbling and acrobatic moves to keep herself safe and give her an advantage. She isn't the best at it, but she could probably do well at a gymnastics competition.
STREETS:
She has street contacts all over New York City, from buskers, to fences, pickpockets, thieves, chop shops, even one or two dirty cops. She is starting to pull away from them, but knows better than to cut all her ties.
Being exposed to direct sunlight can cause irritation to her. Mostly she will have problems seeing, and feel like she itches till she gets out of the sun. This usually isn't much of a problem except during high summer. She just figures to sleep mostly during the day except when she has to.
She never made it to High School so is stuck with what she learned in grade school or on the streets. This means there are some concepts she won't grasp and at time does have problems reading and understanding some literature.
Xian is a mutant which while it grants her special abilities, it does have inherent flaws of its own. There is a stigma associated with being a mutant. She is also susceptible to systems, drugs, powers, or diseases that may target mutant abilites based on her genetics.
Xian has to maintain her day job if she is going to continue trying to make a go of turning herself around, if unable to maintain it she will be forced to slip back into a less legal form of survival.
Due to the way that sunlight affects her, any solar based powers have added effect on her. Whether it is doing double damage to her, or finding it easier to pierce her shield. This is just solar based powers, not other light Manipulation powers.
