Character Details
- Only child of Burt Cal and Dorothy Carlylse.
- Vanessa didn't have good parents. Her father was a shadow in her life, drifting in and out periodically to stay with her mother. Burt was an alcoholic and beat on both the girl and her mother. Dorothy never worked up the nerve to tell the man no, or to leave.
- More often than not, her mother ignored her, though she would occasionally slap Vanessa around herself.
- Shortly after Vanessa's 13th birthday, her mutant power began to manifest. At first it was minor things, like the girl unconsciously mimicing people she spent time around. Shortly after, her eyes and her hair both turned completely white. Followed by her skin turning a startling blue.
- Vanessa's mother kept the girl locked in the house at all times and her father, when he was around, seemed to focus more on venting his rage on the young mutant, than on her mother.
- Dorothy had a fit when she woke up one morning to find Vanessa had apparently turned into her. She beat the 'girl' until she was unconscious and after a few hours, Vanessa changed back to her blue self.
- After this, Vanessa was locked in her room nearly all the time, until shortly after her 18th birthday, when Vanessa ran away from home.
- Living on the streets and trying to learn to control her power while around so many people, Vanessa was forced to turn to prostitution to support herself. Men are desperate, even if you're blue.
- Vanessa also suffered much abuse while working as a prostitute on the streets of Boston.
- She would sometimes manage to take the form of 'normal' women, as she worked. She even changed into men on accident a few times as she learned to control her gift.
- While working, she met and fell in love with the mercenary Deadpool (Wade Wilson). And shortly after, was captured by a vengeful former employer of the merc.
- She was saved by Zoe Culloden a time-travelling agent of Landau, Luckman & Lake who had journeyed into the past to prevent Wilson's eventual self-destruction.
- That night, Wilson broke up with Vanessa after learning he had cancer, leaving her heart broken.
- Shortly after these events, Vanessa left Boston, to get her mind off of things (like Wade) and found herself in NYC. On the streets again.
