Character Details

After wings began sprouting on his back, wealthy prep-school student Warren Kenneth Worthington III became the masked vigilante known as the Avenging Angel. He soon joined Professor Charles Xavier's original team of X-Men, and stayed with them until the original team was captured during the Krakoa incident. When the new team of X-Men formed, Angel went his own way, alternating between short periods of retirement and stints with superhero teams the Champions and the Defenders. He eventually teamed up with the original X-Men roster to form X-Factor.

During the Morlock Massacre, Angel was badly beaten and tortured while trying to save the life of a young mutant. The incident left him near death, and a betrayal from an old friend resulted in the surgical removal of his wings. While trying to commit suicide, he was rescued by Apocalypse and given the chance to have his wings returned. His body and mind were warped almost beyond recognition, turning him into one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. As Death, he blindly followed the bidding of Apocalypse, even attacking his own friends. After Iceman tricked Warren into thinking that he'd killed him, Warren was able to shake off Apocalypse's influence and return to X-Factor. He continued to serve with them, going by the new moniker Archangel.

He has had difficulty controlling his violent urges, despite copious support from his friends. After X-Factor was reabsorbed into the X-Men, Archangel was placed on the Gold Team under Storm's leadership. But whether he'll be able to remain on the side of angels remains to be seen.
