-==[ Daily Grind - New York ]==--------—-

As soon as one enters via the lage glass door, they can catch the scent of any of a dozen coffee flavors in the air. There are usually two or three servers on duty, ready to whip up any of the coffees on the large menu that hangs over their heads. A rope-lined queue snakes from the counter in a flattened S. Couches and tables line the walls, the tables fitting four each, though there are large tables near the back of the establishment. The tiled floor has tables that fit anywhere from two people to six.

Near the counter is a rack of old magazines and books that people can peruse while they're there, and for a small fee patrons can hook up a laptop to the wireless network and access the internet. Overall, it's the kind of place where people can go and buy a cup of coffee and be left alone if they choose, or not. The Daily Grind has the sort of atmosphere that allows for groups of people to come together, or for one or two people to relax by themselves. Like any good coffee house, it allows for most forms of relaxation.

Obvious Exits:

[O] - Upper West Side - New York

Evenings are not the most common time one would associate with drinking coffee. But with the way snow has piled up combined with the chill of the air, people flock to where there is warmth and what could be more ideal a place than a place that is not only warm, but specializes in serving up hot drinks as well? Judging from the gathering of people inside, some have failed to think of an alternative.

Seated towards the corner, appropriately enough wearing dark clothing for the not so dark corner, Mike occupies one of the tables that can occupy two. His signature length hair is tucked away and his Goodwill store bought jacket has the collar hiked up, likely a result of the trek to get here. But he sits quietly. Blending into the background the best he can as he sips his coffee, eyes skimming along the pages of one of the shop's books that have been set out for the browsing.

Sora comes in, "Ah, gotta love this weather" she says, well to herself mainly. Glancing around a couple times. She doesn't take her coat off, well cause she's not wearing one at the moment. She makes a quick walk over to the counter, "Yeah, can I get a large frozen coke…I need something cold to drink, oh and a dozen bagels" Putting a twenty dollar bill on the counter, "Snap, snap…"

As Mike is already seated, he flips a page of the book he's reading, eyes glancing up slightly to something odd in the line of his sight. An eyebrow archs for a moment before he glances back into his book. It takes all sorts in New York…

Sora gets her order, and moves over to an empty table. She sits down, and starts to eat the bagels. "Ah,,a good snack.." Looking around again, she digs into a pocket and pulls out a handheld digital tv. She flicks it on, and starts to watch. Laughing every now and then.

Eyes flick up to the laughter, glancing over towards Sora and then towards the handheld TV. Sitting back, Mike threads a finger between the pages before using his free hand to lift the cup of coffee for a sip.

Sora continues to nibble on the food, taking a sip every now and then. "Right..this stuff is..just sooo funny. They should put more of it on the air." She stretchs out a bit.

Eyelids lowering as the paper cup descends to the table, there is a soft tap as contact is made, likely not heard over the rest of the shop's array of sounds. The musician's head cants to the side curiously as Mike opens his eyes once more. "What are you watching?"

Sora hmms, and looks about at the sound. "Oh, watching…news footage. People getting stuck, falling down. That sorta thing…very funny."

There's a slight quirk of Mike's lips to the answer, "So, news gone blooper reel?" He takes another sip of his coffee.

Sora hmms as she takes another sip, and sets the tv down. 'No, just the nightly news…normal stuff."

The cup tilts back. "And the best they got for a story is some people don't know how to walk on ice?" Mike asks, the quick follow up of his laugh indicating no actual expectation of a response. His head shakes as his eyes glance back towards his book, opening it once more with one hand.

Sora shrugs, and finishes off the bagels. Picking up the tv, she eyes it a moment. "Well, look at that…couple of the pixels burnt out..great." She turns it off, as she stands up. She moves over to the trash, and throws her plate and glass in, as well as the tv. She then dusts off her hands.

Mike's eyebrows raise at this display, book lowering as his voice raises slightly in disbelief. "W- You're just throwing that away?!"

Sora hmms, "The trash, yeah..I usually throw it away. The kinda don't like it, when you just leave it sitting on the table.."

"Not the food," Mike replies quickly, gesturing towards the trash can, "The TV."

Sora says, "The screen was bad..had a couple pixels that don't light up. So, time to get rid of it..""

"You said that but," His head shakes as he glances back up, "Just how big are the damn pixels to begin with?" Mike holds up his hand, touching his pointer finger to the tip of his thumb to make a circle, "That big?"

Sora says, "I'll just get another one…it's not a big deal. This one went bad, so I got rid of it.""

"Just how much was that thing?"

Sora hmms, "Couple hundred I think..I'll just grab some cash, and get a new one. I wanna be able to see it clearly."

Mike's jaw drops. The look pretty much stating what he's thinking. And with the lack of filter, it's not long until Sora is graced with the vocal confirmation, "That's the stupidest thing I've heard all day."

Sora frowns a bit, as she crosses her arms in front of her. "What?..you think it's wrong to want nice things?"

"No." Mike replies, crossing his arms in response, "I'm just not fond of it when people just instantly chuck something away just because it's got a tiny flaw. Could of donated it if you're just going to get rid of it anyways."

Sora laughs, "if someone wants one, let them go out and buy one themeselves, I'm not stopping them. And I don't see the reason to hold onto something if it's defective.."

"Let me guess," Mike muses, head tilting, "Single."

Sora says, "Well of course…nobodies gonna breaka my stride..nobodies gonna slow me down." She grins a bit, "Sides, never met anyone that can keep up with me…""

"That's good." Mike muses, turning his glance back towards his book, "Because if they wanted to, they're probably defective in the HEAD to be running like that. And well, you haven't found a reason to hold onto something like that."

Sora says, "No reason to hold onto something…theres always better stuff on the horizon..the new, the interesting. Just need to forget the past, and get on with life."

Mike shakes his head, "If you forget the past, you forget yourself."

Sora smiles, "Exactly…now I think you got it!"

Pale eyes glance up, looking to Sora once more but he doesn't say anything this time around. Instead he just looks at her.

Sora shrugs, "Some people just gloomy gusses…" as she turns and heads for the door.

As Sora walks out, Mike watches her departure quietly. Cup lifting up as he sips once again. Wow. What a buzzkill.
